I'm really unsure how a NY county jury will play this incident -- both in criminal and civil courts.
I thought about representing this gentleman pro bono; however, a criminal attorney with far more experience than I should handle this assignment as I am primarily a civil attorney. I've represented a few felony criminal clients and gotten all of their charges dismissed. One was a big case like this, and my client probably did what he was accused of but I got him off. This case probably will become a circus which means that it will have political undertones.
In conclusion, New York county juries are very savvy and expect that the litigants are the same. An informal poll taken in my lawfirm last night found the guy to be justified, though he did go a wee bit too far. In addition, the women should not be granted compensation.

BUT IN THE REAL WORLD!
