Brett Favre asks what took Aaron Rodgers so long

Now that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has propelled the Packers to their fourth Super Bowl title, his onetime Green Bay counterpart, Brett Favre, wonders why it took so long.
The iconic former Packer, speaking in a radio interview on Atlanta's 790 The Zone, said he always expected his previous untested understudy to become his equal in that most meaningful head-to-head statistic: Super Bowl rings.

He just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he's a good player. I don't think there's any pressure on him now, the talent around him is even better than when I was there.

"I'm going to be honest, I was not surprised," Favre, who won his only Super Bowl in New Orleans in 1997, said on Tuesday in the interview, as quoted by USA Today. "The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn't do it sooner."
Favre said he realized all along how good of a quarterback Rodgers could be and had high expectations for him to be in this position -- in the limelight, winning his first Super Bowl in January. But he also intimated that Rodgers' rise into elite status has been aided by a supporting cast better than he had in Green Bay.
"He's very bright and he got a chance to watch and see successful teams do it right," Favre said of his successor, currently among the league leaders this season with 12 touchdown passes and 1,325 yards passing. "And so he just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he's a good player. I don't think there's any pressure on him now, the talent around him is even better than when I was there."
Before Favre was dealt to make way for Rodgers to become the starter, Favre said in an interview that it wasn't his job to mentor his understudies and acknowledged some friction with Rodgers when he arrived, but said their relationship improved.
"Aaron had a chance ... even though the last couple years it's seemed like he's almost a rookie, he's been around awhile," Favre said on the radio interview. "And I'd like to think that he watched, he learned, and then when he got a chance to play, he brought in his ability -- which is obviously very good or they wouldn't have drafted him in the first round."
Rodgers bided his time, then took over the starting job from Favre four years ago -- three years after being drafted with the 24th overall pick in 2005. After winning over skeptical fans and media opposed to his starting, he is now as revered in Green Bay as the guy who once wore No. 4.
"I'm really kind of surprised it took him so long," Favre said. "In the early part of last year season, it hadn't quite clicked yet, and I didn't know it would. I just kind of figured when they hit their stride, they're going to be hard to beat. And that's what happened."
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

It must be be killing Brett that Aaron has already matched his Superbowl ring total, and is poised for a couple more. Brett is a legend, one of the best ever IMO, and I don't think he has any reason to be salty... but when he talks about A. Rod, some of it just comes off as sour grapes.

It's not like he's lying...that team is loaded on both sides of the ball with the exception of RB.

Favre played with virtually the same team in 2007

Favre shut the fuck up. He fell into a good situation because YOU COULDN'T GET IT DONE ANYMORE. if you could you would still be in the nfl you stayed 2 years too long in the 1st place.

There was pressure on him last year and every year before that to win the super bowl because he replaced YOU

you're right there isn't any pressure on him now because he did win and he has successfully REPLACED YOU

YOUR SERVICES ARE NO LONGER NEEDED IN GREEN BAY and because you burned bridges and thought they'd always need you now you're upset and salty.

They do not have more talent than when you SQUANDERED opportunities to win. You had all time great defense anchored by the great reggie white AND HAD sterling sharpe to throw to among others....

you had this team and lost
he got this team and won
what's the difference?
YOU ARE

aaron rodgers is already a better qb than favre and if i had to choose id pick aaron over favre every day of the week for the simple fact that at the end of the game i'm not gonna be worrying like crazy that aaron is gonna lose the game on an interception
that's what favre does.

not a shot at fans of either but i think its kind of funny
aaron grew up rooting for montana and young and look at his style of qb'ing

romo grew up idolizing favre and look at what he does

favre overrated.
always has been.
no reggie white=no ring.
holmgren & favre both
overrated.

The media didn't focus on it but I remember Brett refusing to mentor Aaron Rodgers when he was at Green Bay.He basically said that he would have to learn the job on his own. While I can understand why a player wouldn't want to help a backup who will later try and compete for their position, the media LOVES to criticize players who aren't being "team players".As with all of the bad things Brett has done (lead league in INTs,made horrible decisions on field, had a drug problem, and sexually harassed a chick), it pretty much ignored.Sure Rodgers plays on a really good team, but every team that wins the SB was really good.Farve is salty and just wants to minimize Rodgers success by lauding how good the team was(even though HIS Superbowl teams were just as good),Rodgers watching HIM(even though he never mentored him),or that it took him so long(even though he retired and came back to take the starting position which pushed Rodgers back a year).

dude wasn't even MVP when they won the Super Bowl Reggie White & Desmond Howard had more impact in that game than he did...

Hate...Hate....Hate...:smh:

this cat is already long forgotten...

this is the single best thing that's happened to aaron in his career. he learned the right way instead of the favre way. and he won already and was the reason they won...and they were injured last year, this year they're healthy.

favre bout to be back on them pills

i didn't forget favre yes you're a druggy

this is comical....the reason why it took Rodgers so long is because Favre would not go away.
In other words, Rodgers progress was impeded by Favre trying to hang on to his own career.
He's lucky most coaches are bitches...If I was coach I would have yanked Favre out and started Rodgers years ago

Brett go the fuck away.........

Better players....which receiver does he have that is better than Sterling Sharpe.....

AND green bay still has no running game......

The only reason why it didn't happen sooner is because your dumbass wouldn t leave

The Interception King needs to shut the fuck up and go throw interceptions for some arena football league or something.

coming from a bears fan i can tell you that we are Aarons Kyrptonight. he folds and plays ass when the bears are on the other sideline.

farve on the other hand owned the bears for a little more than a decade.

im going with farve on this one.

Aaron Rodgers is aite but lets not act like we gave him a superbowl with 2 chances.

foh

yall have no idea the rage i had when lovie didn't knock out the packers in week 17.

packers wouldn't even be talked about at all.

smfh

aaron is 1-0 in the bowl and he was the mvp he's already done better than favre
if he continues he'll pass favre in packer lore, he can do that with 1 more ring. even if he just stays good and doesn't win again he already tied favre and its early.
favre was his on kryptonite which is why he squandered chances to win so many of them rings.

the bears can beat aaron but that don't mean that aaron ain't doing better for the packers cause he is already...

brett held them hostage for 5 years and shit fam

that's true too but its always shit like that
if there is no tuck rule, brady is nonexistent
if rex was competent at the qb position peyton manning doesn't have a ring

shit happens

Better Team?

I think Farve forgot about all of the injuries GB had last year.

Finley was injured, Grant was injured, etc.

Rodgers put that team on his back and played on an ELITE level.

Farve is a legend. Don't get me wrong. He is one of the toughest QBs in NFL history alongside of Steve McNair.

But,

If you think about it, if we are talking purely about QB intangibles, skills, etc,...

Rodgers > Farve

Y'all don't realize that both of these QBs will be in the Hall of Fame and still have millions why y'all complaining about his right to an opinion.

hol up

yall saying farve had the better team????????????

nah plug anybody into that system in green bay they will flourish.

nigga farve was throwin to javon walker ugly ass

nah you wrong he had sharpe franks and others at one point to go along with the great defense

then he had walker BEFORE THE INJURY remember favre told him not to hold out and to just go into camp and then javon listened and broke his shit...and i bet favre aint have no money for him either
farve had the same squad plus a few ppl and ahman green in his prime and they lost
favre had this team minus like 3 people and they lost on favre throwing a pick
last year they weren't even full force on offense and aaron got it done.

Ayo lbop

Let me knw when afag wins a divison crown.

And 3 league mvp's

Ill wait

Because him and sheli manning and peyton are all in da same 1ship boat

I think Brett is starting for feel the heat, the heat of Aaron eclipsing him in Packers history. All Aaron got to do is win one more ring and he'll have more than Brett. If I was Aaron, don't response, wait until you win that second ring and say "Sorry, Green Bay, I could have won you more rings if someone wouldn't have overstayed their welcome". What took him so long? Maybe someone who didn't want to give up the ball like a child on the playground.
