Hollywood loves remakes, they've been around forever. There are still plenty of original movies that come out. Some are good, some suck.

if this is a prequel I hope they dont fuck it up....when I was a kid the remake with Kurth had me all fucked up...especially this part had me like
Norwegians! Thanks.
You know "Blade Runner" and maybe even "Logan's Run" remakes are coming.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaann, you just touched on TWO classics that should never be touched. Something very cool and unique about the film format and camera tech used at the time that gives them a distinct texture, if you will, that can't be successfully replicated.JG
It's cheaper to recycle. It's good for the environment.
Yeah...When I was a child in the early 80's I didn't know The Thing was a remake.
I'm fully aware of that (although it would not surprise me if they found a way to allow someone to live) but they felt the need to throw in a token black actor when the entire team is supposed to be Norwegian.
But the case of Benjamin Hermansen, a 15-year-old African-Norwegian boy who was stabbed to death on a sidewalk by neo-Nazis, has offered a disturbing challenge to this tranquil country's vision of itself, raising the question of what it means to be Norwegian and European in a demographically changed continent. The questioning has intensified since the trial of those accused of being his killers began last month. ''People realized that Norway is not the country they thought,'' said Nadeem Butt, the director of the government-financed Center Against Racism. ''Most of the people thought racism is not a problem. That has changed quite radically. People do understand now that this is a problem
FULL CO SIGN . . . The John Carpenter version is one of my ALL TIME favorites (which you're referring to here.) And it seems hollyweird is hell bent on "puffy-ing" and bastardizing all the classic joints.
In the 80's version, the original hunters are Norwegian. And you can clearly see the disc shaped space craft crash in the beginning of the movie.
What the fuck are they go re-mix next, 'Blade Runner'!!!! (I REALLY hope not).
And EVEN if they do a good job, FUCK HOLLYWEIRD for not delivering some NEW shit that will become the classics of tomorrow.
JG
EDIT: They're fucking up with this pre-quel. HOW? They're starting TOO close to the original context . . . a derelict alien craft, frozen in the snow. So all we get to see, is how team Oslo gets killed. WEAK.
How about some background as to how and why the aliens crashed in the first place. Or where they came from. And shape-shifting, they (potentially) could have destroyed countless 'civilizations', only to have reached earth in their most recent form.
Better yet, what if the aliens' ship was compromised by the thing they created? A lab experiment gone awry,(biological weapon? a 'planet-cleanser' designed to help take over or remove other races?)an enhancement of their own species that ran amok?
There's so many different ways to tell this new story. H/wood is so weak these days.....
And, 'SHHH' on the Blade Runner idea. They'll hear you.![]()
Hate when they add female roles in a movie when they don't belong their in the beginning.

Imagine my surprise as a kid thinking I was going to see the Kurt Russell version when it came on an old UHF channel (anyone else old enough to remember those?) and the shit was in black and white?
After seeing some shit like that? I'd rather go out the snow and walk till I died vs being trapped in a building with that "Thing"....Fuck it, I'd be out.![]()

That is the GREATEST SCENE in horror movie history!!!!
Man, not only do I remember UHF/VHF, I remember 13" B & W tv's with DIALS!!!! And I see I'm not the only one that got caught like that, thinking they were watching one movie only to see the B & W original!!!

agree about the language goof up, but how do we know there wasn't a female earlier? I remember seeing their team in a helicopter chasing the animal, at the beginning of the 1982 classic, but cmon, if that team was up against the thing, not all of them survived. Maybe there was a woman amongst them that we didn't get to see; maybe she died before the very beginning of the 1982 movie... All we saw was a helicopter go down in the snow. But i havent watched the movie in a while so correct me if i missed something. I'm ready for this movie and I hope they don't fuck it up.
