JIM CORNETTE!!!!! Now that is one name im sick of hearing, i actually think he whines more than Punk and there's a reason people get tired of him. Secondly stop calling Rock a visiting celebrity because that's just a cleverly disguised diss towards him, i mean do you consider SCSA or Hogan a visiting celeb when they made appearances? As far as Nash goes i wouldn't insure him because.....HE'S NASH.

Killing me on Nash:lol::lol::lol:.

Cornette was cutting incredible promos even before he took one step in Crockett and maintained it to the end of his career as a manager. The reason people get tired of him is he doesn't suffer fools gladly and wrestling is full of fools (if it wasn't Eric Bischoff, Vince Russo and most of the WWE Creative wouldn't have jobs).
Rock is a visiting celebrity. Austin comes and goes when they can use him. Each time Hogan came in, he came in to work. Rock came in to work, at this point, one match a year away. He can't be compared to Austin or Hogan but to Mr. T, Lawrence Taylor, and Floyd Mayweather. I know what he used to do but he doesn't do that anymore

I have to agree. The problem with the Rock's promo wasn't that he clowned Gunn it's that he completely shit on Gunn while giving him absolutely no credit. You can talk shit and put over a guy or at least make it sound like the guy who the company is trying to elevate by having him feud with you is an actual threat.Instead he says the guy sucks, mocks him and gives him credit for nothing.
Plus when Austin got over as Dave Lagana has mentioned a few times it was over a year between the 3:16 promo and his match with Bret Hart that was the final part of him being one of the biggest people in the industry.SCSA had people around who he could work with and be elevated from working with whether it was Hart,HBK,Taker, etc.Punk has nobody who can do that.Cena and Orton don't have that power or at least they couldn't do it for Punk.About the only people with that type of credibility are HHH and Taker.Taker is always hurt and they are rushing the thing with HHH.

When they had the chance to build up Punk with Taker, they jobbed him out and he was red hot at that time off the Jeff Hardy feud.
With Orton and Cena, he's building them up and not the other way around.

As for the comment dirty d made about Punk and the "pipe bomb" he made that comment in 1 promo about the mic being a pipe bomb in his hands. And he said pipe bomb at the end of 1 promo. It's not something that he's using as a catchphrase.

It's not Rocks fault Gunn didn't get over, that's the then WWF fault for giving him a KOTR win that everyone shitted on. Also exactly what do you think constitutes a catchphrase because you kind of just described what a catchphrase is. He said it 2x and it didn't get a reaction so that's why he hasn't said it since, when SCSA Rock Flair said theres it got a huge reaction from the get go.

I don't give a damn what the other people in this thread want to say, The Rock cut some of the funniest promos on Billy Gunn that I've ever seen. That video you posted up top is in my top three favorite promos.

And why are people expecting feuding wrestlers credit to each other? They're feuding. Besides, those promos and storylines are approved by the managers in the back. How do you fault the wrestler for cutting a good promo?

All Mr. Ass, along with the entire DX clique would do is shit on other wrestlers. That was their M.O. But it was entertaining and engaging. The only mistake was pairing Billy Gunn with a young, rising star like the Rock who was getting mad love from the audience even though they tried to make him the bad guy.

Because that's how you build the business, by helping build other stars. Even in real fighting sports, smart fighters don't tear down their opponents (Mayweather will never call Ortiz a "bum" even if he thinks he is) because who will want to see you beat up a bum and if you lose, what does that make you?
Like I pointed out with Lex Luger, he sucked but you never, EVER, heard Ric Flair tell you how bad he sucked. Let Flair tell it, Luger was the most awesome wrestler in the world...besides him. And unlike Rock, Flair could get in the ring and make shitty Luger look like world champion material.
What Rock did to Gunn was bad business. It was funny for the moment and it helped Rock make money but it hurt WWE from ever trying to make any money off Billy Gunn.
Don't think I think Rock was the only guy guilty of that type of shit, it was ingrained in the culture of WWF at the time. The way HHH used to job guys like Benoit, Jericho, and Taz was disgraceful. The way he talked big shit to Booker T before their Mania match without Booker getting any real heat back was ridiculous, especially since he knew he was going to win. Austin, with bad knees and a bad neck, used to beat up 4,5, 6 guys at a time. But right now, we're talking about The Rock.

My point is that he cut the line about a pipe bomb and it was basically a month before he ever mentioned or referenced it again.

Eddie Guerrero and John Cena. That was a feud with 2 guys who were both on the upswing and they both were elevated from it.I believe that's what the company wanted when they paired Gunn and the Rock.

And by that time, Rock was over and was being used to elevate Gunn. He had already been World champ and headlined a WrestleMania so he was not on the upswing.

Aww damn, now I remember you  You're the guy that never backs down from an argument :smh: I feel sorry for your wife

Nah I'm fucking with you.

You could never beat Rock on a promo. That was pretty much a given. He was a maestro at that shit, the WWE knew it, and the people loved him for it. It's the reason he's a household name.

As far as Billy Gunn, he was never that good one on one. His most memorable moments are in a tag tag team or group format. But there were simply better gimmicks going on at the time. It was just a matter of natural selection.

As far as I can remember, Rock would put you over in the ring. In fact, he would over-sell those moves. Ever seen him take a stunner. That nigga damn near does a back flip after getting stunned. Austin, Hurricane, Triple H, Jericho, Lesnar, fuck it, damn near everybody he worked with got sold by The Rock, IMO.

That formula can't always work, though. It's great if both can benefit, but there are also times when there will be a clear victor. Rock's star was just too damn bright. He couldn't just turn that off.

True but considering how bright the Rock's star was while Gunn would not have hit that level being involved with the Rock should have helped him and it didn't.

I am that guy and I feel sorry for her too. That's why I always try to do nice shit for her.:D

The one thing I always liked about Rock was that he would put people over, no argument there. But in this instance, he was wrong in how he conducted himself and in another more professional environment, he would have been checked.

Yep and it hurt that Billy sucked. Billy Gunn could have really used a manager.
Gunn might have come out better if he had had the chance to work with Austin, who would have eaten him up on the mic but was a better worker than Rock and could have carried him to some good matches.

JEFF HARDY FINALLY HAS HIS DAY IN COURT AND IS SENTENCED
by Dave Scherer @ 2:05 PM on 9/8/2011

Jeff Hardy was sentenced today in a North Carolina courtroom to 10 days in jail, 30 months of probation and a $100,000 fine as part of a plea deal that will keep him out of prison. Hardy pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver a controlled substance and a single count of conspiracy to traffic in a substance containing opium, all felonies, pending from his September 11, 2009 arrest. The other counts against Hardy were dropped in return for the plea. Hardy has also agreed to remain in a drug abuse treatment program.
Hardy's lawyer requested that Jeff be allowed to travel outside of North Carolina to work for TNA. The request was granted.

Hardy also returns to TNA television tonight on Impact.

I think TNA knew this was coming to have put him back on tv right now.

My point is that he cut the line about a pipe bomb and it was basically a month before he ever mentioned or referenced it again.

:lol::lol::lol:

It doesn't matter how far apart you spread them because once you're tagged with a phrase it becomes part of you. If another wrestler says pipe bomb then it will look like he's stealing from Punk. Cena got to work with Guerrero and Eddie was a guy who could make anyone and i mean anyone look like 5 star talent. Rock and Gunn was flawed from the beginning because Gunn was always seen as a joke, he was the Marty Jannetty of the NOA and Road Dogg was still getting big pops. As far as Dave goes he knows what he's talking about so he's a good person to go back and forth with unlike some/alot of the people on this board who end up calling you nigga or stupid at some point.

I agree with all the Rock and Gunn stuff.

But "pipe bomb" shouldn't be considered a "catchphrase". It's not something he says over and over again to get over. Right now, he's kind of catchphrase-less.

I try to not be a namecaller in general (but some people earn they're "stupid"s) and especially here where we're all fans, just often with differing points of view.

I ain't got no problems with Upgrade Dave. I just remember a time when we were discussing something and every time I visited the thread, dude had a timely response ready for me.

As long as you have a point of view, I'll tussle with you.

That sounds like me.

anyone know what's Raven up to these days?

Working indies. I heard he was going to be booking for some start up, I think the one started by the Smashing Pumpkins guy (name slips my mind).

Watching Impact right now, and this crowd looks like they were all slipped Ambien before the show started. No crowd reaction at all...:smh:

I don't know why I just noticed it. And they suck for having the recording of crowd noise when you can clearly see nobody is moving at all.:smh:

I noticed that a while back during a Hogan entrance.
The audio sounded like people were giving a standing ovation but the picture clearly sounded that people were damn near asleep. And the few that weren't asleep were booing.

Billy Corgan

As for the Wrestling Revolution Project that I mentioned earlier apparently they start up with some sort of taping in mid October.I also heard that they are going with some type of season that will be 13 weeks long.

That crowd has already sat through one entire taping and this was the second one for the night so they're energy wasn't as strong as it was for the first. But they were better than the Impact Zone crowd which has seen it all so it takes more to get a response.

That's him.

Wrestling Revolution is still hiring people and moving forward. Good for them. I hope they're successful.

Alright they're both on the suspect list now:smh::lol:

News from their PPV tonight is that Robert Roode is the new #1 contender for the world title. I didn't even know he was doing the singles match thing. Propz to dude for making it as a singles wrestlers, but as a fan of tag team wrestling, it sucks that another one of the few great tag teams appears to be over.

You telling me TNA was dumb enough to have a ppv tonight!?!? :smh:
