and I'm looking forward to my first single malt experience. I'm going to pair it with a Romeo y Julieta Maduro Reserve stogie.

Any seasoned scotch drinker's pointers, tips, and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Love single malt, especially the ones with a hint of pear in it. VERY smooth. Welcome to the fold. You'll never leave!

Yall some old cats:rolleyes: Im still fucking with imported rum:D:yes: Scotch aight, is this shit any good?

Not too old, but I feel myself making that transition in to true grownmanness. I'm 32. Haven't tasted it yet, but I'll be on tonight when I take my first drink. I'll come back and give my thoughts.

 You've gotta be careful with the good shit though. It's so smooth, you'll get lit without knowing it, and by the time you find out, :itsawrap: You're into rum, think of a Bahama Mama, and how smooth it goes down. You'll wind up over doing it.

glenfiddich is nice, so is mccallans

i usually do 12 years old, that's a great place to start... when you get a good appreciation for the taste, you can start going to the 18 and up ages and really enjoy the smoothness

So....should I drink it room temperature or cold? I've also heard people mix scotch with water? What about ice? What's the best way to start out?

Peep game!

Instructions
Things You'll Need
Glass

Mixers such as water, soda or lemonade

1
Choose a glass based on whether you are drinking it neat or mixed, as the shape affects the aroma. Select a whiskey tumbler for a malt liquor or if you plan on mixing the liquor. Pick a tulip-type glass with the bottom of the glass wider than the top if drinking it neat. This allows the aroma to concentrate in the neck of the glass so you can breathe it in as you drink.

2
Pour the whiskey into a glass. Decide whether to drink the whiskey by itself or add a mixer, such as water, soft drinks or lemonade. Choose a branch or spring water bottled by the distillery that enhances the Scotch's flavor. This can usually be found at the bar or your local liquor store. Water dilutes the whiskey just enough to retain the taste yet keep the whiskey from numbing your senses.

3
Observe the whiskey's characteristics while drinking it neat. Swirl the whiskey and hold the glass to the light. A gold color suggests a sherry oak cask used to mature the whiskey, while a pale color indicates a bourbon cask. Watch the way the whiskey coats the sides of the glass when twirled at an angle and then held straight. The longer it takes to return to the bottom, the more mature the whiskey.

4
Smell the whiskey before drinking it neat. Called nosing, you pass the glass under your nose and breathe in the aroma. Allow the scent to overwhelm your senses before you taste the whiskey. Curl your tongue and let the whiskey sit there. Dip your tongue into the whiskey and let it roll over your taste buds. Identify the different tones within the alcohol.

5
Swallow the whiskey after the tasting. Sip it down slowly with your mouth closed as you breathe through your nose and the fumes enter your sinuses. Let the different flavors compete in your senses. Repeat the process.

:yes::yes:

remember it is an acquired taste, you have to learn how to appreciate it... start off slow, don't rush right to blue label (that's that shit that obi wan was drinking at the cantina)... congratulations on your decision to drink like a grown ass man...

How old are you bruh!! this definitely grown man shit right here!!!:yes:

12 and older - I really get down with Crown Royal and McCallan - always neat if I'm going to drink it with a cigar.

9 and younger - I use to make hard lemonade and iced tea, mix with over sweetand drink at room temp, and pour in ice filled cup, more ice than drink... or fill bowl with scotch and soak grapes, apples, pears and plums for a night or two in fridge. Eat fruit or use for dessert, drink the left over scotch with in a day.
