I can see Floyd is going to have to do most of the talking during their promotional tour.

If Ortiz even looks decent in this fight I'll be shocked.

Thanks for the drop.

Oh damn. He seemed to mesmerize him just by talking.

Now I see his chance going from a strong 15% to less than 10% (which is still more than I gave Ricky Hatton). If Floyd can dazzle him with his words, Victor might get down and :wepraise: after seeing the head movement up close.

I expect Ortiz to put a video out in a decade just like Tracey Lee did about his session with Biggie. He looks like fan getting a chance to rock with a legend. Anyone giving dude more than the slimest of chances is bugging, but there is so much hope in Floyd's downfall that you would think we were watching Jack Johnson in his prime. I starting to understand Daves thread more cause I see Floyd taking Ortiz', Pac's and Khan's head and chucking up the dueces. It will look like he crippled the sport.

Ah, you see. It would be great for Floyd Mayweather (you think he talks big shit now...) but not only would he knock off Pac, a guy in his last days anyway, but two hot, up and coming stars.
Personally, I would root for him but it would hurt boxing for that to happen.

Boxing has survived losing Ali, Robinson, Leonard, and other huge stars. Boxing will survive Floyd going out undefeated.

Of course it will but it would be better if he didn't. But that would only apply if the guy who did it was a) a younger guy will years left to fight and b) kept winning and having good fights afterwards. What boxing does not need if for a Jermain Taylor 2.0: hot flash of greatness with a fast fizzle.

Each of those guys got beat on the way out.

I don't see a win for Ortiz vs Floyd. Part of me looks at this kid and says "maybe he's too stupid, young and bullheaded to be awed by Floyd and this will work to his advantage" The other part of me says "GTFOH!"

I still think a loss won't be as detrimental to Ortiz as people think. I believe dude has the talent to maybe not be a great fighter but a good, highly popular one. Especially if he keeps showing that balls to the wall attitude he displayed in the Berto fight. If that Ortiz keeps showing up, even if he gets put over Floyd's knee and spanked - duke has a bright future ahead of him because as we know, once Floyd and Manny retire, it's anyone's ballgame. I feel the same way about Amir Khan. Though I don't see either one of them posing any kind of legitimate threat to Floyd - though Khan could give Manny a hard time right now, I still think he'd get KO'd. No one around 140-147 is a threat to PBF in my opinion. Not even Manny, but that will only become apparent to most people a few rounds into their fight - if it happens. I don't think any one fighter is capable of ruining or "resurrecting" boxing no matter what he does. What boxing needs right now is a great deal with a regular TV network.

Another thing too. It is obvious that Floyd not only wants to be loved. Despite the show he puts on to sell tickets, you can tell that he wants the public to appreciate him. It reeks from him now...in the last 3 interviews I have seen with him...

He also yearns to be considered up their with the all-time greats.....if he wins this fight and Pacman wins, I wouldnt be surprised to see him even loosen his stance on the olympic style testing.... his latest comments make me think that he is starting to care about legacy

I notice that too.....

True, but if he didn't put on the show that he did, who knows if he would have even been as big as he is today. After the fight with Arturo Gatti, he adopted that persona and ran it to the bank. What added to it was how he handled Arturo, which got some fight fans to dislike him from then...

I agree.
One thing I want to make clear from my other thread that leaked over here: I focused on Floyd because between him and Manny, he's the one fighting a young fighter. Manny's fighting another veteran fighter.

Yeah, he does. Now that's he made the money, he wants the adulation that other greats get/got.

Im not knocking him at all. It was a smart move. I am just saying that it is obvious, that deep down, he really doesnt like playing the role.

Bhop, for instance, doesnt give two shits about the public. I am not saying one is better than the other..im just saying that it is very obvious that he cares because he keeps repeating the same thing over and over about not being appreciated.

Its obvious he was doing some new age Ali shit, but I believe that his arrogance comes from a real place just like Ali and the way they display it is theater... and it is all because he knows how good he is and if you believe him prior to the De La fight.. he didn't have the chance to really shine and get recognition. Now everyone is talking about him and same thing that got him to this point is the same thing that causes people to discredit him. I think he wants to be were Ali was later in his career were Ali was beloved no matter what.

I see that. But for that to happen, he's going to have to lose or at least win one of those life or death battles like Ali did. Ali was a winner but he took some lumps and after awhile, people had to give him credit (plus he dialed it back a little on the rhetoric).

He also became a bit of a martyr as well with the whole Vietnam war situation. A lot of people who didn't like him before that grew to respect him and in a lot of cases that respect turned to love.

The nation's opinion of Vietnam changed and he came off looking much better.
That makes me wonder how Ali would be perceived had we won in Vietnam?
