How to Upgrade to Mac OSX Lion – OS 10.7

1. You can insert the DVD in the computer and then have the process started when you will boot up OR you will be able to have the disk inserted when the computer will be running and then the app will run. (You can also use a USB and transfer the DMG. to the desktop, then run the app from there)

2. After step one, the fun will begin. You will see that a big black X will appear and it will tell you that you need to restart your computer. Also, make sure that you will have at least 9 GB of free space, before you will commence with installing the new OS and if you want to also have the Developer Tools installed, then you will need to have 12 GB.

3. Now you will need to have your language chosen. Well, there is nothing special here. You know what to do.

4. Continuing with the installation process, you will see that the Leopard welcome screen will appear. You can read the “More information” section, but we both know that you won’t. Everyone wants to have the OS installed as soon as possible.

5. Now, you will need to have the installation destination chosen. If you have a MacBook Pro, then you will certainly have only one HDD and that means you will have your choices limited by this. But if you are someone who doesn’t want to get a straight upgrade on your computer, then just head over to the Options menu and click it. There you will be presented with 3 ways for having your OS installed. You can install, archive or upgrade.

6. After making your option, your installation will begin. This is a point of no return. If you are sure of the changes that you will want to make, then hitting the install button will be just a good idea. If you want to change some settings, then just click the “Go Back” menu and make the changes you wish to make.

7. Now you will jut need to wait until he installer will finish. The whole installation process will take you around 1 hour to be complete.

8. After the installation is done, your computer will restart and then you will be able to enjoy your new OS

 really? I'm sitting here organizing all my apps in the Launch Pad into folders, and creating desktops within Mission Control that are dedicated to full size apps, i.e. my calendar, iTunes , Lightroom etc..

The Safari swiping is the truth!

that is not worth a upgrade, you trying to make that shit sound exciting when you could have organized all your apps in stacks

New to mac---will this always work, or will apple release a patch or some kind of authentication check down the road

I agree with Flawless on that...for example "the organizing the apps feature", once their organized now what?

From my experience you are fine. The only note is that you won't be able to call up apple and request tech help. Then they will know you have a copy that you didn't shell out $29.99 for. If your already somewhat tech savvy then this won't be an issue. Plus getting tech help is easy for Mac as well as Windows. Secondly Apple isn't like windows where they send patches to fight piracy. You don't see people with Macs that have this:

I updated from Leopard 10.6.8 to the OSX Lion about 3 weeks ago. It's registered to me. Activated, etc...

trust me.. I'm not trying to convince either of you what is worth it to you. For me, its very worth it.... a lot of cats spend $200 on Windows upgrades and get less of an OS..but to each his own. For $29, its not even a question of wether its worth it to me. And the free links above.. its a no brainer.

INSTALLATION

*Non-clean install
If you dont want to do a clean install just mount this image and run the installer.

*Clean install
If you want to do a clean install there are two methods:

•What works definetly:
-Make a complete backup of your running SL or Leopard system to an external HDD using CCC or SuperDuper. (You should have one anyways so this will save you some time)
-Boot from that backup
-Erase your internal HDD with HDUtil
-Mount the image and run the installer and let it do a clean install onto the disk you just wiped

•What should work as well:
-Just do this in case you dont have a bootable backup.
-Use HDUtil to copy the image onto a thumb drive or burn it to dvd
-Boot your Mac as usual from the DVD/thumb drive
-Wipe your disk
-Install

Black, I downloaded both the fileserve and filesonic set, but when I open unrar it, it will not open, and says it wont because it may be corrupted or incomplete.

I just downloaded the Fileserve links a few hours ago, then extracted with no issues. :dunno:

they should have kept the original gestures alone or at least have the option to revert to them.
4 finger swipe allowed you to quick switch to an app and tap to open it. now it's gone

right click the ghosting lion icon that pops up after you unrar it and click "show package contents" you'll see the MOSXL.dmg icon, drag that to your desktop and then click it. after that verifies and opens you should see an install Lion CD icon, you click that and you're all set

Black thanks for the download...I officially have it up and running.

So far its okay trying to get use to the new features and have held myself back a few times from breaking my laptop screen....it seems like the Gestures are different? reversed somehow? So the flick of the fingers ect aren't giving me the result i've grown accustomed too....!

It's working in reverse for me. So, when I use 4 fingers and go up....I get the different apps and programs I'm running spread out before like when I used 4 fingers and scrolled down.

Easily fix the reverse scroll in settings under track pad. Just uncheck the box.[ Scroll direction Natural.

Can I do a clean install of Lion if so how?

-Install
