Huge Day for the NBA and Nash to Knicks? Josh Smith to Boston? Felton to LA?

At end of labor meeting, still "big gaps" one official says between two sides. Meeting again on Friday. Some movement, civil meeting.

ultimately its gonna end up like this...
they gonna settle at a flex cap of 65mil and get rid of the MLE and sign and trade plus create a new super franchise tag where u can give ur own player up to 30% more than other teams and make only the 1st few yrs of contract guaranteed so teams can cut players if they become like eddy curry. ontop of the there will be a new amnesty clause this yr so team if they want can cut one bad contract...

orlando just got a gift, watch hedo get cut...deng might be too...

My Lakers wish list:

Trade Bynum for Howard

Get a young point guard either by trade or signing.
Shit, IF they make that Pau Gasol for Kevin Love and the #2 pick deal, a PG could be taken. MAYBE Kyrie, or someone like Brandon Knight, or even Kemba Walker. Whoever it is could learn from Fisher while slowly taking over as starter.

Keep Lamar, Barnes, Artest, and Gasol
if possible.

Overall, the team needs some young talent that can take over when some of the vets leave. This is why I wanted the team to get 'Melo when the rumors of a Bynum for 'Melo deal came out. That would have been perfect. Imagine 'Melo and Kobe ballin together for the next couple years. Kobe is young in general, but old in basketball years because he's been a pro for so long. In my mind he's got about 2-3 more years at his current level (one of the best in the NBA). After that, he'll start breaking/slowing down. At that point, the Lake Show will need a new star to pass the torch to. Carmelo could have been that player.

Deng actually earned his money this year. He was our utility player and led the team in minutes. However trading him would not be a bad move. Trade Deng to the Hawks for Marvin Williams and Jordan Crawford(not Jamal).

Ultimately they're both old news and either one would be just a "filler" until NY gets the pg they really want...imo the Knicks shouldn't have gotten rid of Felton in addition to taking out the Nuggets trash for them by accepting those add'l players but I know many'll disagree...Felton shoulda been their guy last year

Nah they have Melo and Stat they don't need another all-star... felton is not imo a future perennial all-star...let alone a future elite player... dude was nice on a bad team...

Reminds me of Stucky... cats from the D like eewwll was rippin me cause I said I don't see what's the big deal about Stucky... now they see the truth... I think the swagger got people hyped but Felton ain't no All-NBA type dude imo

Basically its like this if ur owner is rich and has no problem spending money u are good. This is not good for teams looking to sell their team. Atlanta and the sixers

If that's the case then the Knicks need to sit tight and nail this draft. $64 MM flex cap is a perfect medium. The Player's Association better not fuck this up.

We will be below the cap in 2012 and can keep Dougie and Landry. Exercising Billups' $14 MM was a great move so we can make a play for a player this season. In fact, it would be awesome if we could somehow get CP3 and Okafor in a huge salary dump for NO.

You know... it KILLS me how people SHIT on Pau Gasol... :smh:
Dude helped bring TWO rings to L.A. and people just SHIT on him like he was BUM... :smh:

That's why I wished he would have landed in NYC... Two rings would have put him in LT(#56) or Andy Pettite status... :smh:

BUt in L.A. people just SHIT on this dude... That shit is just FOUL...

if the knicks go after nash and get him we will be at least 37 mil below the cap with the ability to sign cp3 to 18mil a season and reallly round out this team... but its not set in stone, cheap owners fear the super team... miami has one and ny will have one, the lakers will have one, hell the clips are a small forward away from being a title contender... bulls will be able to sign a legit sg if their owner opens his wallet... only the cheap teams will say no...

the players really can't turn this down...they will get their money only thing they might not like is the super franchise tag...but fuck it...in this case i'm happy to have dolan as owner he don't give a fuck and will spend...he spent 100mil on a losing team over 10 yrs...he will spend 100 mil on a winning team...ppl gonna hate the knicks even more...this deal will give us leverage to spend money and not give a flying fuck! lol...cheap owners and small market fans r gonna be like "this shit ain't fair!" ahahahahahahahaha

twolves offered the lakers number 2 for bynum today... lakers r giving it serious thought... if they take it they'll package the number and gasol and odom to orlando and see if that lands them dwight...lakers have not said no to the twolves offer...

Man fuck Nash... He'd get abused running with those quick guards in the East.

What's the word on DeAndre Jordan? The Clips offered him the QO, but if we have some room to play with if this is the cap number, we have to go after him. Look at how Tyson Chandler destroyed the Heat. Bigs are needed more than a stop-gap PG. Billups will be more than capable getting us back to playoffs with a true big anchoring the defense.

The Snicks will not be better than the bulls with cp3.

Niggas forget it's only 1 ball and they 2 of them are beyond ass on defense.

And amare will only play with cp3 for 3 years.

Lol @ a team that got swept by those old dudes being a threat

Oh and Rose wont ever be offered 130mil but Dr buss will offer something similar andddd pooh loves la

Man, LA needs to take that. Move Bynum and get Love and #2. Then put together something for Howard. That sounds good to me.

we may actually be able to afford DeAndre Jordan this offseason if this thing goes thru like reported we got 6mil cap space right now...if we move balkman and someone else we have space for dude but he wants 10mil a season... i dunno about giving 10mil to a player who showed out after 1 season... i dont want eddy curry part 2...we'll def able to get dalembert... problem with dalembert is he thinks he's kareem sometimes and tries to score instead of being a rebounding defensive center...we got enough scorers on this team...our center does not need to score at all....

i dont want nash either but 3mil savings is 3mil savings... u realize we can sign cp3 in 2012 and still have like 10mil under the cap to spend? coming from what we used to spend thats shit is amazing...

This is what I'm hoping for:

Derek Fisher to Orlando for Dwight Howard.

Orlando will get a clutch performer, who has five rings. I see a match made in heaven for Orlando.

 The best center in the league for an old ass point guard? That shit wouldn't even work on NBA 2K!

paul is a pg...he will pass...

melo when he wants is a solid defender actually and amar'e is a good weak side defender but the knicks will be playing zone to mask a lot of issues. we have no shutdown man defenders on this team, very few teams do.

dr. buss can't offer rose more than the bulls can...he will only be able to offer 100mil...the bulls can go as high as 130mil... y wouldn't they offer their star 130mil?

I don't think Clips let Jordan get away, he's Blake's best friend and a defensive stud. He will get his cash from Sterling. The Clips are looking to unload Kaman.

Stern: NBA proposed a targeted $62 million cap. As far as league's best offer? "It's all out there." Wouldn't call it "final" though.

I thought everyone was gonna bow to Stern, Killa? I thought he was gonna remain firm because he always gets the players to cave? I thought the hard cap was a lock.

Yeah. I knew it'd head to something like this.

After the season the NBA had there's no way they'd remain steadfast with their demands. The players will give concessions, no doubt. Butbthere was literally no way thebowners would have gotten everything they wanted, as they wantedit like SOME posters acted.

And lets be real. Stern is going to want Paul in NY. You see what happened in Miami? You followed the ratings? They got the best of both worlds- a star ridden team everyone, EVERYONE talked about, and a team that has one superstar with very good role players win the championship.

They'll cover their asses with shorter contracts - 3 and 4 years. Maybe get rid of sign and trades, give teams more incentives to give their drafted players and this flex cap. Guaranteed contracts remain. Maybe max contracts come down (why should they even have raises I always wonder).

Introduce revenue sharing for gate receipts.

i agree with u but this new cap structure is not gonna make it easy for the clips.

Man it irritated me to no end! Talking aboutnthenfirst offer as if it's the final. And all this shit about Stern always winning and getting players to cave

Yet don't realize the players won. Just look at all the money paid out to average players, much less stars. Lol. The only players who "lost" were the top 3-4 players. Guys who could try and pull insane contracts.

Hahahahahhahaahahha u didn't catch the fine print u are aware that a flex cap isn't nothing but a hard cap delayed. U didn't check the Article on nba.com

http://www.nba.com/2011/news/06/21/asch-labor-negotiations/

The players see this still as a hard cap check the article players rejected the flex cap already as everyone said stern is playing games by letting everyone know that they offer a flex to make it seem like the owners are trying to work things out by moving from the proposed hard cap of 45 million

Remember the players already said no to a flex cap before so if they say no to it again the players look greedy now.

Why u think they didn't agree to it today.

Flex cap is still a hard cap to the players.

The biggest issues are the MLE, digging teams over the cap in a hole, where average players felt they deserved it, and that portion of time where every big man was given 10mil per contracts just for being tall! I think that started with Adonal Foyle. After that all the other gms were forced into giving outnthosencontracts or losing their big men.

Don't try to weasel out of this. You were on some chicken little, the sky is falling shit. Like the NBA would have this sudden drastic change.

You had a 45 million dollar hard cap set for next year with immediate rollouts. And you thought they were gonna get that because Stern is so gangster with it. Lol.

There's a reason it's a negotiation process. You start firm, then soften up. But you swore the NBA would get exactly what they asked for.

It is a hard cap, but with the 62 million dollar figure it could have a maximum of 65-68 million and a minimum of 35 million.

It is hard at the maximum, but it certainly isn't the 45 million you swore by.

I'm not weaseling out of that 45 million is wrong this year but again what did David say??? The cap will gradually go down and what will u guess the number will be?????

At first I did say 45 million but if u checked my recent post I said the same thing it was revealed the owners offer a proposal that would slowly move in to a hard cap.

All they. Did today was raised the cap up but still nothing change it will be moved to a hard cap.

Reason why the players rejected the flex cap when it was first on the table.

The point remains a hard cap will be coming if they agree to this flex/hard cap

Once the is a deal in place that eliminates any chance of us seeing a hard salary cap, will the OP post a written apology thread on the board for flooding the forum with all of the "There will be a $45M hard-cap" talk?

I could've told you that was going to happen months ago... Oh yeah, I did.

Make sure u check what I said if there is a lockout stern told hunter that the players would cave in and he would do like hockey and place the hardcap as soon as the season start if they sign the proposal on the table they wait a couple years before the hard cap is in place

Now u telling me I didn't say that??? All that happen today was Stern raised the cap up but still as FISHER said the cap will evetually kick in.

Yes. But not no 45 million. It won't get to that point anytime soon.

They'll be more covered. It's the dead weight contracts hurting teams. Introduce shorter contracts and non guaranteed final years.

45 million is a looooong way from 62. The players rejected it because they still hve time to negotiate. They'd be foolish for just taking that deal. The NBA won't go back to offering 45. Now the NBAPA is going to see if they can get some more.

There will be a hard cap. But it will NEVER be 45 million at the current rate of the NBA's popularity. 60-75 million plus revenue sharing, shorter contracts and unguaranteed years will go a long way to close that 300 million loss. There was NO way salaries were going to get rolled back, no way there'd be a 45 million dollar hard cap and no way Stern wants to tempt a real lockout that cuts into the season. Not now.

Not with the season the NBA has had. You really think NBA suits want to put an end to what happened in Miami- HELL NO!

All I'm saying is, you operate from a position of acting like you have the inside track and that what you say is what's going to happen.

Anyone can go to hoopshype.com/rumors and find everything you post. But you take rumor and present it as fact.

Just admit you were wrong about Stern's iron fist and it's all good.

Another reason Stern wants to avoid a lockout- his legacy.

Don't fall for stern's double talk the only new info is the amount has been raised to 62 and he said himself that the players had already known that fact. For me as a Knick fan this info is great. The Knicks could either go for CP3 or actually build a full roster around Melo and Amare.

Anyhow they want to make the hardcap around 62 million but they will phase it in meaning teams would have a few seasons to get under the cap. In slick Stern talk he calls this a Flex Cap.

all he is saying is the league they would honor all current contracts and even let teams use the MLE for a few more seasons, but its very likely they also said all newer contracts would be counted against the hard 62 million cap. That's what he probably meant by flux current teams over the cap wouldn't be penalized for being over the cap but whenever a contract came up they would have to budget it to 62 million cap.

The most interesting thing is the Bird exception. before in a sign and trade other teams could sign you to the years/money you would get for staying with your original team. However by possibly allowing teams to go over the Hardcap to sign their own players they could limit superteams by simply removing the sign and trade. He also said teams would have to maintain a certain amount of cap as well. If he meant for that rule to stand at all times it would also limit teams ability to shed salaries in order to go after another teams star player.

Add in lower Rookie salaries the very likely shortening of guaranteed contracts, a one year Amnesty clause and you realize that Stern is still doing what he wants.
