Director of Public Relations - Seattle Sonics & Storm (Seattle, WA)
Overall responsibility for public relations strategies for the Sonics and Storm and all communication vehicles
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop year round positive media coverage for management, teams and overall business initiatives
• Establish and maintain relationships with local/national reporters
• Provide assistance in crisis situations
• Serve as spokesperson as appropriate
• Write business plans and manage department budgets
• Work with PR Managers to provide daily PR support for Sonics and Storm coaches, players, team(s) management and media
• Oversee all Sonics and Storm team media relations logistics
• Oversee PR support at all Sonics games and practices
• Work with PR Manager to support Storm travel and practice coverage
• Manage and maximize broadcast partner relationships
• Manage and maximize non-sports media opportunities
• Write public relations materials – releases, talking points, key messages, etc.
• Work with Communications Manager to oversee production of all communication vehicles including media guides and game day program
• Manage public relations staff of four
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• 8-10 years of public relations experience
• NBA/WNBA experience preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Solid record of creating public relations strategies and maximizing media coverage
• Proven track record of working with marketing to promote initiatives
• Experienced in managing budgets while maximizing cost efficiencies
• Proven leader in motivating staff
• Ability to travel, work on weekends/evenings with short notice
