Shaq should have won last year

Shaq with 1 MVP and Nash with two?

Nash deserves it ...no doubt.

Just makes you think

Someone asked a question about this on the Main Board. What is Nash doing, that Kidd didnt do, when he was a candidate for MVP? He took his team to the finals twice, even though they lost. Im not saying Nash doesnt deserve it, but it is a good question. I didnt take the time to try and find Kidds stats from that year, but i would assume that, just like Nash, he was leading the league in assists.

nothing.

it is a good question only insofar as it is a misleading question.

for the record jason kidd made the mvp ballot EVERY YEAR from 1997 through 2004 (he won ROY in 1995).

who would have jason kidd displaced during those years? let's see:

karl malone? michael jordan? shaquille o'neal? allen iverson? tim duncan? kevin garnett?

so, it's not a matter of what jason kidd hasn't done, it's just a matter of bad timing. just like some great teams were denied championships during the michael jordan/chicago bulls era, some great players were denied mvp awards during the shaquille o'neal/tim duncan era.

the jason kidd fans shouldn't cry "foul" either. in 2002, jason kidd received 3 times as many 1st place votes (45) as shaquille o'neal (15), and had only 12 fewer votes than tim duncan (who won mvp with 57 that season). for perspective on this accomplishment, jason kidd garnered more 1st place mvp votes in the 2002 season than tobe (misnomered as the league's best player) has done in 9 seasons combined.

are there any people who are arguing that jason kidd deserved to be on the ballot in 2004-2005? 2005-2006?

comic relief?

so what you're saying is, that NONE of the things i wrote are correct, simply because i threw in a reference to tobe for perspective?

BTW, you didn't say peep when i compared jason kidd and shaquille o'neal. and you didn't say peep when i compared jason kidd and tim duncan. but you get touchy when i compare jason kidd and tobe?

 Nah, not at all. I was agreeing with you, feeling your flow. Saying "aight, he got a point". But then the Kobe reference, and i was like :hmm:

I knew you did it just to start me up though.

I didn't say anything because Duncan and Shaq were part of your explanation. You have to mention those two, because they are the individuals that were competing with Kidd at that time for the award. Kobe wasnt even being mentioned as a candidate. So Kobe really had nothing to do with the other comparisons.

Nash has no business in that poster......DAMMMMMMMNNNNNNNN

I told you to wait and see

The Lakers match up perfectly with Suns.

Now we have a series. This will probably be the most entertaining of the three.

Nice win TIM.....
ANNNNNNNNND................... Kobe actually gave ODOM his due.

I told you Odom is no scrub......Kobe admitted last night that he has to keep Odom in the flow of the game..(less ball hogging by Kobe)

Yeah, i know. I was watching all the post game shows after the game as well to see what kobe would say. He gave the WHOLE TEAM credit as well. I knew Odom wasnt a scrub. I never thought that. Even Barkley gave kobe his props for this game. He said Kobes performance reminded him of Magic Johnson. Now thats a compliment, especially coming from Charles. I would rather see this type of game from kobe, than him going for 40 to 50 points. Listen to Phil. Thats the only way he will accomplish great things. Sasha played good as well. But Phil should take all the credit for this win. He made a great game plan. Lets see what happens next game. Game 3 will be the real deciding factor. I dont even want to make a prediction yet.

If they win it will be Phil's game plan.

Perfect give and take by Phil....Kobe get the scoring title out the way then lets start sharing.

Phil is probably the only one who can get to Kobe.

I still think the Suns will win because they have been playing as a team longer. I fully expect Kobe to go off if they get down 3-1 or 3-2.

I told ya...we will see.

Steve Nash
Why the NBA Needs This Man
By CHARLES BARKLEY
I've been all over the world, and I always think people won't know who I am. They do. The way basketball has been embraced globally always amazes me. And I'm glad the world has got a chance to learn from a guy like Steve Nash.

What has he taught us? It pays to be selfless. You can be content just to make the players around you better. There are too many scoring point guards in the NBA today, and the game has suffered. People think that in order to be a great player, you have to lead the league in scoring. Forget that—despite averaging only 15.5 points a game, fourth best on his team, Nash was the MVP of the NBA last season, the first Canadian ever to win that honor. He deserved it: his 11.5 assists per game clinched it for him. And he's doing an even better job this season. To top it off, Nash, 32, is just a nice guy. He recently used endorsement money to help pay for a new pediatric cardiology ward in a Paraguayan hospital. That's beyond admirable. Over the past few years, his popularity has exploded. His ego could have swelled—everyone else's does. But he still just wants to pass the ball.

I'm a lucky guy to be living in Phoenix. The sun. The golf. And I get to watch Nash act like a magician on the court. Can't top that. And who knows? Maybe he'll inspire a whole new generation of kids to pass out of double teams the way he does. Like Nash, maybe they'll be selfless off the court too. That would be even better.

Barkley was just voted to the NBA Hall of Fame

for those that are interested in how the MVP voting went, here is the scoring for the top 5 candidates... there were 11 candidates in total, but only 6 of them received 1st place votes.

steve nash 924
lebron james 688
dirk nowitzki 544
tobe 483
chauncey billups 430

here is how the candidates finished ranked by 1st place votes:

steve nash 57
tobe 22
lebron james 16
chauncey billups 15
dirk nowitzki 14
elton brand 1

my question is what kind of drugs were the voters consuming that gave more first place votes to tobe than lebron james? i'm no big lebron james fan, but he averaged more rebounds, more assists, and helped his team accumulate more wins.

damn hype. :smh:
