Exactly. It's similar to the gay thing or perhaps a drug abuse reference would be more appropriate since gays get bent out of shape when you compare them to pedophiles. A gay person whether they are born that way or not without opening that whole debate up can choose not to engage in homosexual behavior even if they have same sex attractions. It can and has been done. It's not an impossibility.
The recidivism rate on pedophilia is astronomically high. But it is a compulsion and they do know that it's wrong but it's a sickness that will stay with them for life. Just like any substance abuser these people can never ever be alone with any child anywhere. It sexually tempts them and arouses them and they know exactly how to manipulate a child's mind through threats and intimidation or some type of twisted coercion bribery or persuasion or even drugging the child or getting them drunk.
This pedophile was only 18 but has been molesting younger children at least since his own early teens. People are so quick to dismiss teenage crimes and violence claiming they are just children but some children can commit the most callous and heinous crimes and sexual perversions.
This type of stuff gets deep.
