Did Police Officer Overact in Window Shattering Incident or Is the Student on the Wrong Here?
Carscoops

Here's another instance of an otherwise routine traffic stop gone wrong in the process – it seems, we've been having plenty of those lately, or at least, they're making the news more often. This particular case involves a University of Central Florida (UCF) campus police officer, a student and…a broken window.
Officer Timothy Isaacs, who was recording the incident with his body camera, pulled over UCF student, Victoria King, for driving her 1996 Mercury for only having one working brake light on September 4. King also asked her for a registration, but the woman told him she didn't have one because it wasn't her car.

In the video released by the police department, we see Isaacs approaching the car to hand over the citation to 26 year-old King. The officer asks King to roll down her window, which she does, but only partially. He then asks her multiple times to roll down the window, but she refuses.

BGOL will come in here and talk about how racists the cop was. I have seen white cops do some bullshit, but on this one, I have absolutely no problem with how this was handled! She should have just complied and this would have been over in 5 minutes!

On a side note, she was... nevermind, not the time for those observations! :D

I remember the a video posted where a white guy only rolls his window partially down . I don't think she legally has to. I don't understand why she would roll the window all the way down initially then try and keep it up when the officer comes back.

She earned that one.

She could have just taken the ticket and rolled off. I guess she thought if she kept the windows up, the cops would just go away....

I mean, young black person driving a car with a busted tail light with no registration, she was lucky she wasn't a dude or she would have been suspected of grand theft auto..

What he did was illegal.

He had no right to ask her to step out of the vehicle, no right to arrest her. He had no right to put his hands on her property, the vehicle. There was no suspicion of a crime. Just a traffic infraction.

She was in the right to have her window at any fucking level she wanted. His security was not in jeopardy if he could of handed her the citation. She has every right to refuse to sign it.

Know your laws, that is some bullshit harassment.

Call the real police.

I am going to start. A woman should never roll her window all the way down if she does not have to. I know the women around here don't do it. How big a fucking gap did that cop need to hand her a ticket??? Pulling on the window was just power-tripping and arresting her was just to justify the bullshit he did.

Those university cops should be better trained than that. The only thing that may save him is she is black and they are in Florida. His ass would have been fired for that around here.

The cop had an attitude from the jump her being young and defiant made matters worse BUT with that being said university police should fucking know that they are dealing with young adults and should try to exercise wisdom it says allot when a mature adult can't verbally reason with someone his junior.

It's not like she's a 45 year old woman on crack with two teenage boys, i'm just saying

Is was stupid all tha way around.Tha girl was acting smart for no reason and tha dumb ass officer ran her name and no warrants or stolen car came up so it was excessive to break tha window. You are trying to get her to sign tha citiation which you can go to jail if you don't sign it but she never refused and you aren't trying to apprehend a wanted fugative.

This is what happens when a dumb broad tries to use legal advice that she halfway understands from a Youtube video. She got caught red-handed with a busted taillight and no registration. She could have just taken that L and went on about her day but instead now she has to deal with citation along with impound fees, repairs to a broken window, bail money, and a lawyer to help fight charges of resisting arrest and failure to obey an officer.

Somebody breakout the Marlo pic...

Generally speaking, I don't believe our girls get the same 'how to deal with the police' conversations that we do.

I agree. No registration; said the car wasn't hers; all she had to do was roll down the window to the officers command; he didn't know whether she had heat or something else so he was right to ask her to roll down the window, and when she refused his command, to step out the car.

Chicky wanted shit to be one way.........5-0 wasn't having it; good for them for arresting her ass.

You'd be in jail right along with her. You realize most university cops at public universities have the exactly same police powers and authority as municipal police, right?

So this is how cops deal with non violent people who pose no threat, she is black so no doubt cats on here will say she deserved it, the cop even charged her for assault

can all of you cop cosigners post the law that states she has to roll the window down

ill wait

if there is no law, then yall need to shut the fuck up

if there is, ill shut the fuck up

i dont see how anyone can defend this devil especially when he lied and said she tried to roll the window on him

going to jail over a tail light is ridiculous

and yoooooo, this dude purposely rubbed his blood on her at the end

Looking at it again, he was definitely out of line with the window. However, she played a part too. Most people, especially if it's their mothers' car, will look in the glove compartment without being asked to do so. He could have handled it better, but so could she.

First mayb every state is different. Here in chicago u do not have to have the Window all the way down to reach for the citation to sign it!! To me I see both their points, but I think got mad when he said hes writing a ticket for her light then he got upset when she had the window half down. Then on the other hand he lied on why he broke the window. He said it was because she tried to smash his arm in while rolling the window up..he was lying!! Could it have been solved simple yes.. were both moderately wrong yes!!

She fucked up because he ordered out of the car.

http://www.nytimes.com/1997/02/20/u...er-people-cars-routine-stops-court-rules.html

"The Supreme Court ruled today that police officers may order passengers out of the cars they stop for routine traffic violations, even in the absence of any reason to suspect that the passenger has committed a crime or presents a threat to the officer's safety.

The 7-to-2 decision, adopting a position long advocated by police organizations, was an extension of a 1977 Supreme Court decision permitting police officers to order the driver out of the car in a routine traffic stop.

''On the public interest side of the balance, the same weighty interest in officer safety is present regardless of whether the occupant of the stopped car is a driver or passenger,'' Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist said in the majority opinion today."

So even if she didn't have to roll the window down, once he told her to get out of the car and she refused, she was done.

wow the supreme court isnt shit

well there you have it folks

that bitch ass cop just put on display the fear these damn devils have for anyone in Black skin. His fucking safety was not at risk, he could have easily handed her the citation and she could have signed it and handed it back to him. Why did he feel threatened by a woman whom only crime was a broken tail light? You can only imagine how he would deal with a Black man.

With that said, i believe it was mentioned earlier, our women do not get the same talk or lessons about dealing with the police as we do, this would have played out differently had a brother been driving. The cop did have a attitude from the start.

Fuck the police btw.

The sista should have just taken the ticket and gone home though. There's a time to make a point, and there's a time to get home safely.

Gotta know the difference between the two.

And this is completely correct. Once ordered out of the vehicle, she should step out. But he does not have the right to break her glass because he felt that he wanted it down further. I don't think she was trying to roll the window back up, but he WILL say that to defend his right. In the news article I read, he said that his elbow felt pressure of her pushing the window up, lies. I surely did not see that.

For all of you thinking that the way he reacted was ok was where many of you day by day are being more and more ok with these police officers or representers of the law, taking away your civil liberties.

For a routine traffic stop, she didn't have a registration, fine take the ticket and pay it later.

She could of signed it UNDER DURESS before her name and took the ticket.

Signing a ticket only gives them assurance that you will show up in court. Does not give admission of guilt.

I think a lot of her reaction was due to her being scared and not knowing what to do. That dude could of handled her a whole different way. Saying he will break her glass? Why? Cause she was black? Young? His and her actions were wrong. But he went way over the top for what?

You really think he would of acted this way to if that was a good ole' boy sitting there without registration?

Mind you this is Orlando, right down the block from Sanford...

man most cops are just scumbags who get off on hurting people physically, mentally, or emotionally

here is a forum that i used to read that cops post on

im linking a thread with a similar situation

notice how these mofos get a huge thrill of hurting people in the manners i described above

http://forums.officer.com/t142318/

And a citation for a broken tail light doesn't mean a fine. They give you like 30 days to fix it and if you don't complie then you get fined.
But if it was a brother who did tha same shit he would have got shot. And if he was white nothing would have happened but tha officer allowing him to sign tha citation with tha window half way rolled down.

never understand why people choose to get legal on some small shit

stop blaming the victim

ill never understand how a cop can be that gung ho over a fucking tail light

hell in nys its a fix it ticket

fix it within 24 hrs and you dont even have to pay the fine

dude is just an idiot that loves power and gets off enforcing it

hell the cpus in the patrol car can tell you if the car is registered or not
