I never heard of him before now. He looks young in the video but he's almost 50. I gotta do some research: I wonder how many Black Grand Masters there are. Moreover, I wonder what it takes to earn the title. The video makes me want to start but studying and playing seriously again.

There is a small pool of black grandmasters I think there is like 20 or 30 of them.I'm not sure.

I know in order to be a grandmaster your FIDE rating has to be 2500+ and you have to maintain it...There is some of other stuff you have to do,but I gotta look that up.



Edit:

  • First, score three Grandmaster results or "norms" in FIDE-sanctioned tournaments;
    • Two, reach a minimum rating of 2500 in the FIDE rating system;
    • Three, have the federation to complete all the required paperwork including norm certificates and pay the processing fees;
    • Four, receive conferral by FIDE
