Im really not sure what you are trying to say. Im not comparing MJ to LBJ, there is no point or comparison. LBJ is the greatest small forward ever; some will say hes the greatest player of his generation; some will say hes the greatest of all time. Im not comparing, its no need. But are you saying that the league is harder to score in now, then in the 90s(for example)? Im not sure what is your point...
Eliminating Hand Checking, NBA
From 1990 onward, the NBA made a steady effort to improve offensive effectiveness and reduce physical contact. Among the changes implemented was the elimination of hand checking in 1994. When hand checking was allowed, a defender was able to use his hands to make contact with and impede the progress of an offensive player - this added another degree of difficulty to driving from the perimeter.
Along with the other rules, the elmination of hand checking led to an increase in offense, as planned. Free-flowing offense was revived after being stifled by the suffocating defense, and so we see players like LeBron James and Kevin Durant dominating individual games. While some argue that the game isn't as good as exciting as it used to be because now offensive players are "untouchable," there are those who took the opportunity to evolve - when you can't rely on physical contact, defense does get harder, but good defense becomes artistry. The Spurs, for example, are a team that adapted and thrived behind great defense in the new era.
