With the holiday season approaching, a prominent mental health expert told MSNBC viewers that they should feel justified in cutting ties with relatives that voted for President-elect Donald Trump.

Yale University chief psychiatry resident Dr. Amanda Calhoun spoke to MSNBC host Joy Reid on Friday night about ways liberals who are devastated with Trump’s re-election this week can cope with news, including separating from certain loved ones.

"So, if you are going into a situation where you have family members, where you have close friends who you know have voted in ways that are against you… it’s completely fine to not be around those people and to tell them why," Calhoun told Reid.

The damage is already done. Some families are already divided on this issue and it may be so for the next 4 years. But i fear in year 1 or 2, they will be ones apologizing for their erring ways once they realized how their choice has not made their lives any better.
Up to you if you want them back at the table.

But here is the thing…..you think the actual democrats are cutting each other off? You don’t think republican senators and democratic senators are actually cordial cool and in the same inner circles outside of work? They can be cool with each other but we supposed to cut our own family off based on who they voted for?

So a husband and wife supposed to split over who they voted for?

Bigots don’t apologize.

Do you think the abuse between the husband and wife was just going on during election season? It's been 9 years and something has to give. It's beyond a disagreement, it's to the point in a lot of houses where you fundamentally look at things differently and sometimes that does require you to reflect on if it's still worth it.
