A civil suit should be a slam dunk. The problem is even if the jury awards a large bankrupting verdict against the family, you have to hope that it holds up with the court and any appeals. Then, even if the verdicts do hold up, what do you do if they don't/can't actually pay it? For example, OJ was still living his best life even after owing the Goldman's 30 million. Supposedly, he only paid $130,000 to the Goldman's by the time of his death.

The suites against the city and school will probably lead to some nice settlements, but it will also mean that the settlements will probably be "no fault" and all the discovery will stay private.

At best, both victims will need to do a media tour and let EVERYONE know exactly what happened, if they every want to see the system publicly called out.
