Would You Date a Man Who.....

um the spaghetti made me sick....

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

:hmm:

I know many cats who have never lifted a hammer in their lives, and who also don't know the difference between a flathead and a Phillips head screwdriver. Mind you these are privileged people we're talking about.

Building stuff without directions is overrated in my opinion; it's retarded macho bullshit and shows a lack of common sense. Better to get it right the first time than to have it come crashing down around you as one of my friends found out the hard way.

There's also the generational gap that isn't being discussed here.

Great point.

We are living in different times and for the most part certain skills are actually more of necessity for certain economic classes than others. Just the way the ball bounces...

Confusingly enough, the mating game hasn't got the memo....

You notice I never said anything about trying to fix shit with directions. I do believe that a man who has never attempted to fix something has some sort of deficiency somewhere, though.

Probably in his masculine gland.

The man who raised me couldn't even hammer a nail or connect a vcr or anything yet oddly enough was a surgeon. I had to do all those things from a really young age. So I definitely want a man who knows how to do that stuff.

I enjoy fixing things and I don't mind getting dirty, but I really love it when a guy can do it for me. It's nice not to have to worry about doing those kind of things by yourself sometimes.
And welcome neighbor...I live close to Plano too. :)

Damn. ALL y'all should get together. And i'll film it.

My dad had all sorts of tools around the house and naturally I was curious when I saw certain tools and asked dad what is this etc. When mum wanted something in the house fixed, dad would get me and my older brother to come and help him sort things out.

Even up to last year I was gonna pay someone to lay down some wooden flooring for me. After being quoted some stupid rates, checked on the net and decided to do it myself. Couldn't believe how easy it was to do.

I believe that any able bodied man should be able to pick up a screwdriver and fix something with it.

i agree with your line of thinking. my grandfather was the same way. whatever he was fixing always had me there. never understood it back then (always thought it was boring) but appreciate it now.

Maybe there is a generational thing going on, but what if the list of "useless skills" began to include things like math:
"Why I need to be able to count? I gots a cakalatur fo dat!"

If it's lost in the translation, I think every man should have a range of skills and knowledge and be damned thirsty for more!

It shouldn't then, be too much to ask the same of his woman.

L/S, not for nothing, know that I can change ALL the tires, cook, clean the floors, open doors, pay for for dinner [mine and yours], make you shake before you take off your panty hose and make all your girls say "I want one of those!"

...Cause changing tires just ain't all I can do!;)

I'll pretty much do anything except electric work involving the main box (adding breakers, running new lines to the main) and plumbing that involves anything inside the wall or under the floor. I ain't really big on electrocution or burning down my crib and for the plumbing, I ain't big on massive water damage if I fuck something up and with the last job (replacing the main sewer line from top to bottom in my 3 floor crib), that was just plain nasty as hell. My crib is like 70 years old and we have been in the process of rehabbing it for a year (sold a newer house and moved here because I always wanted to do the "This Old House" thing). I'm alright with cars too for some things that don't involve spending money on major tools like engine/tranny lifts or shit like that (and I don't fuck with breaks because, once again, I prefer my mistakes not KILL people if I make them). I don't change my own oil because the cost of disposing of the shit legally in my area is as much as just getting it done someplace (and I care enough about the environment not to just dump the shit).

You can find good tutorials to fix a lot of appliance on line or you can ask almost anyone working/cruising in a hardware store.

I learned how to wire a house and install A/C in IRAQ. Me and about 5 other dudes built the building that would be our cardio/fitness center in about 2 weeks. The only thing missing was windows.

Yeah man informational tutorials are out there for everyone willing to give it a try. Its just like someone said earlier these cats don't want to get dirty.

Good luck with your fitness center.

There's no question on the generation gap. As a people many of us have gone from doing it ourselves to "oh I can't do that." It's a damn shame. :hmm:

Howdy neighbor!!!

lol silly shit. But lets get this clear, do you ask dude if can change a tyre ? I think most times dude might have already hit a couple times before you find out he aint a handy guy. If you talking crap after he already hit he would then end up thinking you just a silly hoe - played yourself.

I can usually tell way before we are fucking what kind of dude I'm dealing with. I am in no danger of "playing myself."

Yes, there is a generational gap, however, there are plenty of dudes out there that can at least fix a flat. I personally believe in traditional gender roles, thats how I grew up. My daddy could fix anything, and he taught me how to do most of the stuff.

I'm just not feeling guys how act like they are scared to break a nail. Thats what I saw a lot in Cali. There are just certain things, in my opinion, that a man should be able to do, and have no problem doing.

thing is a lot of Men dont grow up with a Father to teach them
basic repair skills

that was the case for me - I had to teach myself how to do repairs
just to save money ,cause I was broke

now I get A really good feeling being able to fix stuff for Ladies
I'll help total strangers (Women) get their cars started,or change a tire - we gotta look out for each other, ya know

That is very respectable!!!

so that is the new requirement these days, fuck looks, or personality, if you can't change a tire your not a good man

:smh:

Maybe those effeminate men don't want their hands to get rough and tough or break a nail and mess up their manicure.

btw a lot of women love those sissies anyway.

I'm sure you have your preferences....this is just mine.

That is why I wanted to see what the women on here thought about it. I've never been a pretty boy lover. If a guy spends more time doing his hair and nails than I do, he is not for me.

My masculine $.02

I am NOT A HANDY MAN.

But I can fully respect any woman that appreciates a HANDY MAN.
It goes with a masculine sense of utility. Women want to know that if some shit goes down you will be able to handle it. Goes much deeper than just a flat tire on the side of the road.

There is a lot of shit I don't know. But I am willing to try.. I will A) either read the instructions included B) Google how to do the shit C) Call a professional and not whine about it to my woman.

Just like I expect my woman to cook. She does not have to know how to cook like BIG MOMMA..lol
Its just in her attitude. She has to at the very least be willing to learn.... I can work with that. While she is learning if she is simply making those skillet meals... you know the ones where you by the BAG in the freezer and you just add a 1lb of chicken...stir fry for 10min and WHOOLA a meal!
A lot of times it is about the EFFORT not necessarily the "ability" or the "end product".

I think that is the same thing the women are looking for in men.

I would agree with that. Its absolutely something innate in me. I HAVE to feel my man can handle stuff. On the flip side I can also fully respect a man that appreciates a woman who can take care of her man. While quite independent I do find myself naturally gravitating towards typical gender roles.

....did not know how to change a tire?

When I lived in Cali, more than half of the guys I met didn't even know how to change a tire, fix a doorknob, or paint a room.

Is it important for a guy to be handy for you to take him seriously?

Since I've moved to Dallas, it seem like all the men know how to do these things and more. They aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty. Just curious what yall think about it.

I live in NORCAL, and I have met many skilled blackmen, who do all the above and more, in the 4 years I have lived here...

*only a couple,wink*

I find interesting and stimulating, to exerience a skilled craftsman at work, once I get 'em home, shower and a hot meal, they clean up real nice...

Ladies all men can fix things but certain things simply do not interest some men. Some men simply do not have any interest in home improvement projects or any manual labor tasks. Some of the strongest men in our society have never picked up a hammer or nail. He might not be able to fix your sink but he knows how to finance your new dream house, invest in your kids college fund, provide nourishment for you and your children and allows for you to live like the queen you are.

He may never be able to hang a shelf but he can build a strong foundation for your house to be built on. Ladies some men work very hard in order for his family to never have to lift a finger to do anything. Some men sweat and sacrifice their entire lives for the woman they love and the children that were produced out of that love in order for them to live in peace and never have to worry about anything. He might not be good with his hands but his mind and work ethic is something brilliant. So don't look down on a brotha because he is not good with manual labor.

Yes I CAN definitely change a flat tire, I can also change the oil and any other auto fluids, or perform any other minor maintenance.
I can't say that I am especially adept at fixing anything in the engine per se, but I also grew up in the city where most of us don't have private garages to be able to work on our own cars. :smh:

That being said I can also fix anything in my house (meaning I can paint, hang shelves, fix holes, change outlets & light switches and do minor plumbing or wiring repairs) or whatever else necessary.

In addition to that I also cook, clean, wash dishes and do laundry.
So where exactly does that leave me in this bid for sexual equality?

I think we should start a new thread asking how many of these same women know how 2 cook, clean and properly take care of their homes?

*raises hand*

Some of the men re getting the wrong idea in this thread. The OP is asking about basic things. Not building a house. A man who can't change a tire or fix little things around the home is useless to me.

I dont care what you can or cannot fix. My baby only fixes computers and that's all that's important....Wait I'm wrong...he also fixes dinners and rusty pipes... Call AAA to fix the tire.
