Staff Writer - New Orleans Saints (New Orleans, LA)
Department Media & Public Relations
Reports to Senior Director, Media & Public Relations
Overall Responsibility To report and write on the football club for the official New Orleans Saints website (neworleanssaints.com), and to oversee the daily monitoring of other team projects including the public and media relations functions, business affairs, ticketing services, youth initiatives and general New Orleans VooDoo (AFL) information. He/she will also assist with writing and editing for team publications developed for use by the Media/Public Relations department and Sales & Marketing staff.
The position carries a heavy writing requirement. The staff writer will be asked to write feature stories, game stories, columns, practice notes, e-newsletter copy, and statistical breakdowns. He/she will also need a functional understanding of HTML and will learn how to set up and monitor video and audio feeds for the website and NFL Network camera.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities • Handle all writing and editing assignments as directed by the Senior Director, Media & Public Relations. • Daily website (neworleanssaints.com) updates: news clippings service, injury reports, fan polls, etc… • Manage and update the photo archive database on a weekly basis and prepare images for use on neworleanssaints.com. • Assist with the writing, editing, and preparation of the Saints Insider e-newsletter as necessary. • Assist with audio and video content for neworleanssaints.com, including setup of streams for press conferences, events, etc. • Assist with writing and editing of all department publications including game-day programs, special advertising sections, and yearbooks. • Work closely with the Media/Public Relations staff to develop story and publication ideas, and maintain up to date Internet content. • Attend all Saints’ games as well as home VooDoo games and other club related functions including community events and youth initiatives. • Become an active participant in the site’s Multimedia component, interviewing players/coaches on camera and for web radio. • Works closely with following club personnel and their staffs: Director of Marketing, Website Manager, Senior Web Developer, Manager of Marketing, Director of Community Relations, Community Relations Assistants, Director of Event Operations, Vice President of Public/Media Relations, Director of Public/Media Relations, Manager of Media Relations, Players, and Coaches. • Works closely with all of the following non-club personnel: Representatives of National Communications Group, NFL.com employees and other league personnel.
Skills and Attributes • Excellent public relations & interpersonal communication skills. • Strong organizational skills. • High attention to detail and accuracy. • Skilled in multi tasking. • Dependable and conscientious. • Ability to adapt in an ever-changing environment. • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
Experience Requirement Bachelor of Arts or Science; post-graduate work preferred. A minimum of two years professional experience; sports writing background is a plus.
Hours 40+ hours per week; requires week-end and game-day hours.
