Public Relations Manager - Minnesota Lynx (Minneapolis, MN)


Reports to: VP of Lynx Business Development

SUMMARY: The Minnesota Lynx Public Relations Manager will serve as the primary day-to-day media contact for all Lynx public relations efforts. This role will focus on Lynx public relations efforts both in-season and during the off-season. The candidate will work on the day-to-day operations, strategies and objectives of the department. Attendance at all Lynx home games and road games is required. Job requires night, weekend, and possible holiday work. Candidate will not have any direct responsibility with the Timberwolves.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage Lynx PR department, overseeing day-to-day aspects of team’s media efforts.
Serve as the primary day-to-day Lynx public relations contact for the media & staff.
Act as team liaison with the WNBA League Office, which includes the execution of WNBA regulations, procedures, and media initiatives.
Oversee the marketing & non-basketball Lynx PR efforts.
Expand, implement, and execute a twelve to eighteen month Lynx PR Plan.
Develop Lynx a player branding/imaging campaign.
Create off-season publicity plan for the Lynx.
Proactively pitch stories - business, basketball, and community.
Assist media at Lynx practices, write press releases, and travel with the Lynx in PR capacity.
Oversee the publicity efforts for the team's community relations' events.
Coordinate community appearances for coaches & players during the off-season in conjunction with Sr. Manager of Community Relations.
Act as the Executive editor of Lynx preseason, regular season, and post-season media guides.
Advise coaches, players, and administrative staff on suggested interaction with media.
Responsible for generating editorial content on lynxbasketball.com during the WNBA off-season.
Pitch stories and develop mini PR campaigns surrounding team events.
Work closely on Lynx PR budget with Director of Public Relations and VP of Lynx Business Development.
Acquire a working knowledge of the WNBA's stats system.
Represent Lynx in all Wolves/Lynx communications meetings and during League meetings.
Oversee Lynx PR interns.
Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE;

College degree required, preferably in Communications, Public Relations, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous public/media relations or sports information experience required.
Strong writing & communication skills required
Sound Computer skills required; familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
Demonstrated organizational skills
Able to multi-task under time constraints
Ability to work with a wide variety of people
Ability to proactively pitch stories a must-have
Knowledge of various web applications and ability to create & post content on website desired.
Knowledge of and passion for Lynx/WNBA preferred
