Community Relations Coordinator - Los Angeles Lakers (El Segundo, CA)


SUMMARY: Candidate is responsible for supporting the Community Relations Director in various areas of the department, including day-to-day office duties, event management, program planning and development, player appearances, fundraising and game day duties. Efficiency, attention to detail, flexibility and good judgment are critical in this role.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Organize and respond to charitable donation requests, appearance requests and fan mail
• Answer and prioritize telephone calls and other communications, and respond as appropriate in a timely manner
• Supervise Community Relations interns
• Coordinate charity group tickets distribution to community organizations
• Update Community Relations website and publish a quarterly department newsletter
• Assist with planning and implementation of Community Relations initiatives such as Lakers Read to Achieve, Junior Lakers, Freedom Through My Eyes, Student and Teacher of the Month, Fast Breakin’ Lakers Wheelchair Basketball and A Season of Giving
• Manage game night auctions and various in-arena activities
• Develop and maintain partnerships with local non-profit organizations and schools
• Assist with fundraising events to benefit the Lakers Youth Foundation as needed


QUALIFICATIONS:

• The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years work experience, preferably in the areas of Community Relations, event planning or non-profit/charitable work
• Experience preferably in a fast-paced organization with demonstrated ability to anticipate next steps, learn the intricacies of the organization quickly, take initiative, exercise discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information, and apply sound judgment
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills in managing interactions with individuals at all levels inside and outside of organization
• Must be flexible, highly organized and have a proven ability to juggle multiple and competing asks and demands, collaborating with team members and working independently, on assigned projects
• Work requires excellent attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines
• Experience creating organizational systems to improve efficiency and functioning in a changing environment
• Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proficiency in MS Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher


ADDITIONAL: Candidate must be able to work all Lakers home games and extended hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as required. The successful candidate will in time have the opportunity to assume responsibility for select programs and events, as well as create own initiatives.

I've been offshore for 6 weeks so we have a lot of arguing to catch up on. I'm outta the loop though, I only saw 1 game of the finals, and have been pretty much without news/internet/phone since june 7th. :lol:
 
Let me guess..the position is scapegoat. Some one to blame when the Lakers *cough*Kobe*cough* don't live up to the high expectations of David Stern and the media.:rolleyes:

no, this is a real gig. actually a rare opportunity because both the clippers and fakers seldom have public hires. it's a position where the right individual could do some good.
