The ladies of The Hype discuss how images of women in the media effect one's sense of self. Our special guests are Aja from Kindred The Family Soul and poet Ursula Rucker. There is a short "commercial" after the initial introduction, then the discussion continues.

The media only effects your children if you let it. I watched the video, and i'm sick of blaming the media. It's on us women to gather these young girls and begin to mentor them and show them a different way to be. EARLLY.

What the woman said at 12:16 to 13:10 is something that we had to deal with, with a young lady just the other day here, she said almost the same thing

I agree it starts at home, but I think this panel was just focusing on how the media affects young girls. I thought they made a good point about how the dancing changed in the music videos from the 80's to now and the marketing. Kids have always copied and tried to be like the hottest music and tv stars. When we were growing up we had folx dressing like MJ, Prince, Madonna, Janet and emulating their dance styles, kids today still emulate what is popular in music, but what is popular is what back then was considered adult entertainment. Now it's all mainstream.
