JUDGES EVALUATIONS:
Judge shanebp1978:
After great thought -
CHEW MY GRITS -
Perfect use of the sample, his use of vocals showed a
complete song. Scratching was perfectly placed. Song was a
head nodder, neck snapper. Dude has talent on this hip hop thing.
KingPhred - Good sample use. I could recognize the sample.
I could rap over it, good bridge!!
Mufasa672 - No. Not hott.
The ProF - Ok. Not alot of creativity. Simple use of the sample.
SkyMute - 2nd place. Love what he did with it, making a
house mix!! lot's of originality!!
Winchesta Heat - Ok
O.G Jamen - OK.
Sir Good Drank - OK.
SHANE'S WINNER CHOICE:
CHEW MY GRITS - WINNER. Clearly. Hott, hott.
That's all I got to say on that.
Peace

Judge NubiaNectar:
Hey TEN. Just finished listening to
zrdzzdrz's track.
The sound of the track is crisp and clear. His track is kinda repetitive but everything blends together well. Everything is on beat. Other than that it doesn't really stand out. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being excellent I give z a 7. As I said earlier I'm not familiar with the software they use to put the samples together so you're
not gonna get a lot of technical jargon from me.
Next is Indelible_01.
I like the way his intro came in...using a bit from the original track then mixing in his sample. His horn track was mixed a little choppy. Same with the original track sample he mixed in the backround. Came in a touch offbeat more than a couple of times. He gets a 5. I'm guessing
that these samples are sposed to be repetitive so I'll expect that from here on in.
Kingphred is up.
Damn he got a powerful intro! I like his bass line. His drums are crisp and multi leveled. Symbols are ringing
like fine crystal! Subtle horns in the backround. All his mixes were on time and creative. He even has brief guitar riff in there. Love the way he ended it, cutting between the original and his sample. Damn good! This brother has
a future in the studio. I give him a 9.
mufasa672 has a nice groove.
I like the way he changes keys. His bass line is kinda muddied but I like his horns. Although his horn mixes are on point they're kind of chopped at the end of each mix. Maybe that's the sound he was going for though. Drums are basic but steady. Love the way he changes keys back and forth. Toward the end he got creative with his drums, adding a kettle to give a deep rumble effect. I give him
a 7.
THE PROF is next.
At the top and toward the middle of his sample he has a double beat on the snare that give it a skipping flavor. Cool. Like his brief guitar riff near the beginning and love his horns. Love the way his symbols start soft and rise creating a positive feeling. His drum beat was kinda simple. He gets a 6.
CHEW MY GRITS stepped the tempo up.
His kick drum reverberates nicely. Decent symbols.
Slightly off on some of his snare beat mixes. Decent
tracks laid down to give a semi syncopated environment.
To me it sounds like he rushed putting this together and
I didn't care for the interspersed vocal track. Grits put up 2 samples. I give him a 5 for the instrumental. Didn't give him a score for the rap joint cause I don't know if that was him. Whoever the rapper is he's spittin mad lyrics and that DJ sho nuff scratchin up the cut! Fiyah! OK I'll give the rap an 8. That makes his score 6.5.
Wasnt sure what skymute
was doing at first but once I got what was happening
i sat back and grooved. Very creative with his vamping
the keyboard riff. Syncopated drum beats gets the feet
to patting. Love how he took the horn sample and looped
it. It takes skill to make a club beat out of
a slow jam and synch it up with the horn from the original without losing
a beat. Gets an 8. His 2nd sample was a let down. He was off on several
horn loops in the beginning.
I like his drum beat. It's grooving without being overpowering. After the initial horn loop he got the beat back with the 2nd horn loop. Subtle keyboards in the back. His 2nd sample fell off in quality big time. It gets a 5 making his total score 6.5.
Winchesta Heat gets a 4.
His mixes were off. Had little originality. He let the rap dominate the sample and it was so damn loud I could barely hear the music in the backround. I give him some credit for his scratching...if that's really him.
Sir Good Drank
used the original cut to lead in.
His mix from original to sample was a bit off. Trying to figure out what he wants to do with the cut. He's doing more playing than creating, like he just got his toys and trying to figure out how they work. I give him a 5.
And there it is.
NubiaNectar'S WINNER CHOICE:
Kingphred
I counted nine brothers who put down samples. Kingphred outshined them all. Loved his sample. In my opinion he's the winner. Appreciate you selecting me to judge the contest. Thanks
Peace

Judge TEN:
CHEW MY GRITS
The January Winner laces up another hiphop banger!
Great movement and supertight use of the sample.
Supplied with both rap and instrumental versions,
im loving the instrumental cos the way grits has
cut the sample into his own melody, making a beautiful
funk bed, definetly a rappers dream! Grits himself may think
he didnt do enough on this one, but trust me less
is more when you lock down a great groove like this.
TIGHT TRACK.
INDELIBLE 01
dont like this one very much, very basic, but producer
has time to improve and take more risks. Plus at 1.58
its too short of the 3minuites required time.
KINGPHRED
very smooth, very laidback, would make a great neo-soul
track for a great singer. good laidback sunny day production,
albeit minus the thrills.
MUFASA672
Tight intro on this jazzy snare and bass led tour de force
by one of the PML's hottest producers, mufasa672.
He isnt afraid to break it right down and get all dubby on yo ass,
almost dabbling in some trip hop! Plus theres a big change halfway thru,
making the track even darker and more mysterious. A very creative production
by a versatile and always interesting music producer.
O.G.JAMMER
Sounds like an authentic slice of 1990's hiphop
which means i automaticaly like this! Very interesting
bass kick sound on this, and nice cut up use of the sample
especially the horn. Some tight hiphop music here and theres never
anything wrong with that.
SIR GOOD DRANK
very basic, but ok, although at 1.41 its too short of
the required 3 minuites required in this and every battle.
SKYMUTE
Past winner skymute brings that boombap with his
february entry, playing heavily on the tight horn
section in the sample and some well placed vocal stabs.
good tempo on this one too, with a funky crisp snare that
just wont stop hitting you in the neck. good track!
skymute actually dropped two versions with the 2nd cut
wondering off into house-dub music territory. Which creatively opens
up the musical possibilities for this sample. Skymute's music is most
definetly meant for the clubs!
THE PROF
one word: WOW!
The musicality on this is just so beautiful its like whoA!
the prof has kept the mood of the original but made it just
that more jazzy. He clearly understands movement and how to build
momentum, a really good singer will know what im talking about here,
as this is perfect for a singer to just do their thing now, Really tight work
prof.
WINCHESTA HEAT
Another banger from one of the illest online producers of
all time! yes i just said that. I will even forgive him putting a Jarule verse on this as fatjoe & jadakiss make up for that error. But never mind the vocals its winchesta's music thats the star of the show here! a real professional sounding production chopping the fuck out of the sample, using both vocal and music parts to create his own melody and ambience. His chorus section is award worthy on its damn self!! This could easily be played in the club 2morrow with no problems at all. The Heat clearly knows what the public want.
ZRDZZDRZ
Created a nice little groove for himself here,
the groove and melody are punctuation stabs in the
correct places, its like a connect the dots melody
that still remains very funky. tiny samples make
interesting sounds.
TEN'S WINNER CHOICE:
For making a very professional sounding killer
my winning choice goes to:
