Say what you will they did make an impact on the music and sold a shit load of records to boot.

Should they be honored at some point..I'm not saying the next show but in general...

i think they should honor hammer but why honor vanilla ice?
dude only had 1 hit and he was just a white version of hammer

if you make the criteria hits then there were a number of older rappers that didn't have mainstream hits..but will probably get recognised..

should 2 Live Crew be honored?

word 2 live crew should be honored they really opened up the door for hiphop on the mainstream
they was the first big act from the south to go platinum and they was a historic group in the history of music because of them gettin banned back in the day, they got locked down in jail and everything
if they would have lost that case rap and hiphop wouldnt be where it is today

It's called HIP HOP Honors.

Now they can have rap awards they can give to any ole body and that would be fine by me.

2 live crew are two hit wonders really (me so horny and banned in the USA)..they weren't good rappers and IMO not much better than Vanilla Ice.

And they got banned for being DIRTY..something THEY ushered in and you really didn't see in hip hop before them...Thats not a good achievement..

I beleive that they and the influx of gangster rap was the beginning of the end of truly creative hip hop for the most part because it started a contest of who can be the dirtiest, most violent, misogynistic and materialistic in rap music.

50cent is a DIRECT decendant of 2 Live Crew and NWA IMO..

Excellent point!!!

hammer....yes
ice.......NO

im just wodnering how long they can honor the GOOD mc's. I better not see the HSop Boyz and shit up ther next yr or years to come or niggas who suck i general for that matter.

i agree but they still had a big part in raps overall history, there arent too many positive rappers that have moved as many units overall as 2 live and too $hort, you look at artist like X Clan and Poor Righteous Teachers had better overall albums but didnt have the mainstream appeal. i would put somebody like DJ Quik in as well, he had a big influence on hiphop

then we're back to vanilla ice...He found major mainstream success, selling twenty million records worldwide.

Van Winkle's manager and financier, Tommy Quon, chose a limited release for the single, and no vinyl release for the album, so that fans bought the more expensive CD instead. As a consequence, To The Extreme became the first #1 album in the US without a vinyl counterpart release. It went on to sell over 11 million copies.
according to those numbers then VI SHOULD be recognised...see what happens when you look at just record sales..

who did Vanilla influence tho, he copied everything from hammer, same haircut and outfit

Come on y'all, this is VH1. Don't take it serious. I'm still waitin for Cold Crush and Fat Boys.

mc hammer - yes

vanilla ice - not an honor but a mention - yes

he helped kick down some doors for mainstream hip hop, lots of these flashy mainstream rappers wanted and got that status with his help

not just white rappers

beastie boys - alternative hip hop

3rd bass - more underground hip hop

vanilla ice - pop hip hop

Hammer Made An Impact On The Rap Industry!
You Have 2 Give Him His Just Due!
Ice And Kill Himself!

Hammer - Yes.

Jay-Z once stated that there should be a hip-hop board and Stanley should be on that board.

I've always liked Hammer because I accepted him for what he was.................an entertainer.

He made a few boneheaded moves like dissing LL and Run DMC. But he did plenty for the community and seeing him at the first Million Man March showed cemented his representation.

Vanilla Ice deserves a mention, not an honor.

It's a shame that his name has become synonymous with rap wackness when a plethora of rappers since then blow him out of the water in the wack rap category.

Vanilla Ice, maybe in a "*sigh*.......come on in" kinda way. :dunno:

Hammer........hells yeah!

then missy elliot shouldn't have been honored..

Word up! To be honest, when I saw that Missy was going to be honored I didn't even watch that shit. She's cool and all, but not ready to be placed in the ranks with the legends who'd been honored up to now by VH1 Honors. Mock my words... this edition of VH1 Honors is the edition where they...

WORD WORD WORD !!!!!

Hammer should definitely be honored. He may not have made the best music but he opened doors in a big way. Vanilla Ice doesn't deserve anything. He was a product of the business.

The should honor Kool G Rap.

Kool G Rap No Question!!!!!!!!!

What About Gangstarr?

With Premier and Guru having had a slight fall out (allegedly) I'm not sure they'd get back together for a Gangstarr performance. However, they have been one of the most consistent groups in hip hop history.
If not Gangstarr then Premo should definitely get a nod.
