Troop. I mean there aren't many songs that the Jackson 5 sang that anybody could do better. However, this is one of them that made the J5 version seem simple. J5 was good, Troop was better.

J5, easily, although I like Troop's version as well. I don't normally like remakes of songs done originally by black artists remade by black artists.

troop

I used to have a crush on this chick that was in my 4th grade class I would play this everytime I got home...

As a group and overall execution I have to give it to Troop
I don't like when people remake songs because most of the time they take away the punch and power from the original. But when artist match or add to that punch and power I applaud them. This is one of those moments where I have to give applause to Troop for doing their thing. I always liked this version because of that.

As for the Jackson 5...in this song Mike carried it...it really wasn't a group effort. Honestly as iconic as the Jacksons are, this is one song where they could've done better. Mike did his thing (as usual).

Great drop

Troop made one hell of a remake.

I will sit on the fence for this one. Originality must always be cherished but innovation must be also.

Going to have to go with Troop on this one, that was one of my instant pussy getting jams when I was younger.

Not being born and raised in the US, The Troop version was the one I heard the first time and I thought it was great!

A few years later when I moved to NY and I started to dabble in music, I heard the Jackson 5 version and I thought it lacked something from it. Maybe a little more "emotion" and "passion" (if you want to call it that). But it was sang well and musically it had the sound of that decade.

I lean towards the Troop version...well done remake and the singer worked well within his range and ad-libed as well as The J5 did. The feeling and intention of the song come through in the Troop version....just my humble opinion.

Sidenote - Whatever happened to the lead singer of Troop anyway? I know pop groups have a limited shelf life, but that guy had a pretty good voice. Wonder what he/they are doing now?

Troop made it a song for whores which is why Troop is no more (by the way, Troop gear was controlled by the KKK)...

J5 made it a sweet song for the high school church girls...

Troop the group and Troop the clothing are not one in the same. I do remember the klan rumor that Troop means taking rights of other people back in the mid 80's.

bump lets get a few more replies

this is the closest of all of the who sung it threads

I have to agree. If it was just about the leads ... Mike's impassioned pleas trumps anyone. But as a whole, especially this live (sounds televised performance) does not compare to the studio polish of the Troop cut. I am sure Barry Gordy has a polished studio rendition that would blow Troop out of the water. But for this cut versus cut. I go with Troop.
