Bruh...for this chic here you'll learn...i know i wouldlol..man i probably buss my ass...aint roller skate in yrs...
and i was the same way i thought i was gonna fall too but by the second lap i was back to my old self...still was scared to try skating backwards tho...i knew my limits

mayne, that is ALL we did as teenagers- be out there every weekend pearlin' and trying to holler at girls. I don't skate like I used to, but still pop in on Thursdays every once in a while.
I went to a skate party (for a kid) a couple of years ago- and you could tell what parents came up where by the way they skated.
on a whim, I looked on youtube to see if folks in other cities skated like we do here in Columbus, OH: and found some videos actually from here.
This is one of our local skate spots, and this is how we do:

20+ yrs ago, took the kids, fell backwards gonna catch myself with the palm of my hands, touch down hard as a mofo, later that night the right center of my palm looked like a snow bunny with a fresh eye jammie.....

B4 there was The Tunnel, there was TheRink, the biggest roller rink in the TriState NYC area.
Everyone who knew what time it was was there while hip hop grew into the mainstream from punk and street type culture.
The Rooftop was tiny compare to TheRink - the scene from PaidInFull most likely happen there if not TheRooftop b4 they shut it down & it was like 10-12 mins away, maybe even less, driving wild.....
Skating up until like 12, 1 or 2 am, then the JAM begins and the skates get put away, wayb4 there were established clubs in NY that played Hip Hop and attracted the youth.
Seen everybody from SlickRick & Doug, LL, Whistle, Flash&theFurious, TheCrashCrew, DavyD, missed RunDMC, CutmasterDC, LisaLisa, JusttIce and what have you on that stage which had the sick sound system in the spot thanks to DipLite, VanSilk and them from Uptown.
FunkmasterFlex cut his teeth in there carrying somebody's records
The 90s as the videos show turned it into a weekly Virginia/Jones Beach function type of crowd weekly drawing young doughboys up from Va and all over just for the night, golddigging, fly hood chicks in tow, dookey, truck jewelry rocking Polo kids, nice on skates, backwards, fast as fuck, doing tricks through the crowded floor (notice the referee shirt security), racing expensive whips and shit in the parking lot across the street outside, scaring and pissing off surrounding city white cops and constituents hahaha. Long assed lines, colorful and youthful crowd of kids who aint give a fuck, fights, hustle crews, the whole energy was too much for itself.
Shut down and its a Sears now
On a more regular level, UncleRalh and VideoMusicBox had a few nights where they taped from a spot out in LI that still goes hard with the roller skating or grown folks night

They would have DEFINITELY been all up in there with their whole crews or left at home on purpose by their hustling boyfriends to avoid any problems and am sure they have heard the stories from somebody on just how lit it was at the time.

never could skate, rollerblade, or iceskate.. but i did go to some events and parties for the bitches
I still skate. My kids think it's the funniest thing in the world.
They just shut down Golden Glide. 
Everyone was at Skate Key on Fri and Sat night then hit the diner on 149th street and the grand concourse for breakfast
We alternate weekly between skating, bowling, and shooting range. Just started the skating 2 years ago and yeah it was hell at first because i hadnt skated since 89
not me. Last time i tried i fell hard and i swear it took about 30 minutes for me to get up. So i laid like there and thought about life and what the fuck was i doing trying to skate. Hit skateboard for a hot ass min then gave that away too. Getting old sucks. That was 2010
on another note i knew a teacher ho who skated every week. Circa 2015 to 2016. She got depressed, fat and looks like an abomination now. Life ain't fair son

I used to skate, Rollerblade, and ice skate when I was younger. Haven't done any of that shit in years though. I've tried but they didn't have skates in my size the few times I went
we still go at least once a month
I'm from Canada so ice skating is more my thing. My girl and I just hit up the outdoor rink at Union Square last night.
They just shut down Golden Glide.
It's back open.
Cascade still open.
It's a few Sparkles out too...
