Do you find any younger actor (30 or younger) carrying the torch? I know for awhile Derek Luke was given the chance but he's been in some terrible movies. Mackie was underrated and still is. I like Jessica Lucas, but that's because I want to hit, acting wise, she aight. Michael B Jordan? Who do you see bringing in multiple or even one oscar?

Right now this instance hollywood in a state of flux..we're watching a period of the changing of the guard. What I mean is all the old hitmakers and superstars are getting old and the industry is grooming the next generation of superstars and hitmakers..and ALL of them are white.

Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts and a few others are all in their 40s and 50s and getting to old to put the butts in the seats like they used to. Thats why youre seeing all these young 20 and 30somthings coming out now..Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara these people are their replacements.

But Will Smth, Denzel, Sam Jackson, Halle Berry and Morgan Freeman are getting old too..all are from 40 to 70...

WHO IS BEING GROOMED TO REPLACE THEM??

You COULD say Anthony Mackie but he's not heading up any movies all he gets are supporting roles. Who else???

Shit for that matter who did Denzel and them replace before they hit the scene??? The last mainstream black star before Denzel was who..Sidney Poitier?? thats it! And the biggest factor in Denzel getting to be as big as he is is because Spike Lee cast him as the lead before that it was just co starring roles. Before Halle what mainstream black actress was there? Dorothy Dandridge MAYBE?? And who's coming up after Halle??

Hollywood doesn't DEVELOP nonwhite talent like they do their own. If a nonwhite happens to hit they will run with it (ala Will Smith) but they won't develop that person by teaming them up with established stars..

Notice how their using Denzel's star power to carry young white actor lately...

how many nonwhite young actors are they teaming up with established white actors??

i agree with everything you said. i could just argue eddie murphy was given a chance after he caught fire teaming up with nolte and BHC and black comedians will always be given a chance, but in terms of oscar worthy actors, you are right. washington tried to bring up luke but he flamed out and now is doing tyler perry movies.

the problem is the studios aren't actively looking for the next denzel or halle..they are looking to replace tom cruise and brad pitt and if a good young black actor comes along they'll go with it but they aren't searching for him or her.

i guess its up to spike then and the hughes brothers. I think Idris is the best right now and he can play leads but he's already up there too.

Anthony Mackie is definitely on the Denzel track.

Katerina Graham might do better if she takes better roles. She has the talent.

Zoe Saldana seems to be on the right track, although she's a little over 30. (34)
She is the next Thandie Newton.

Hollywood seems to really like Jordin Sparks. If she can keep the weight off, she might blow up.

Mekia Cox is funny. If she keeps going the direction she's going in, she'll have a Taraji P. Henson type career.

Brandon T. Jackson is the next generation comedic actor. That is for sure.

Journee Smollett is a true pro but she seems to be stuck in a t.v. show loop. If she can break out of that, she could blow up.

I see something in Shannon Kane. She's got a real expressive face. If she can get away from soaps and do more like she did in Brooklyn's Finest, she could go places.

I also see something in Genesis Rodriguez. I know she's latina. Still, she stole scenes in Man On A Ledge. She's got potential.

Good post. Although I would say that Hollywood is having a problem trying to find their next Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt too.
Channing Tatum is doing a good job and he's producing his own movies but he sucks acting wise.

As far as black Hollywood, I would say the sistas are Nicole Beharie, Zoe Saldana, Kerry Washington.
For the brothas? The only one I can think of Anthony Mackie. :smh:
Look out for producer Datari Turner though.

If Sparkle does numbers when it releases, Derek Luke might be back on the right track. But his movies are so far and apart. Just doesn't seem like he puts in the same work as Denzel.

For all of them it's about roles. Like to me Mackie was great in Half Nelson but he really hasn't had any role like that since. Smollett hasn't really had a role on the level of Eve's Bayou. And Saldana is already doing better than Thandie Newton. At least she's been the main star of a big budget movie at this point unlike Thandie Newton.

Yeah Denzel falling off he just lost to Kevin Hart for Best actor............:hmm::hmm::hmm::lol::lol::lol:

but seriously i never thought about this good question

yea dont forget how good he was in hurt locker

:itsawrap: and that is the bottom line.

I completely forgot about that one. He did his thing in both The Hurt Locker and Half Nelson and has stayed at his current level. In the meantime his co-stars in those movies Jeremy Renner and Ryan Gosling have blown up and become stars. And Shareeka Epps who also was very good in Half Nelson has barely been in anything since.

I agree with the statement that hollywood doesn't develop non-white actors. I believe the way we will get our shine on is...Youtube! We have to develop our own sitcoms, mini-movies, movies, etc to gain our audience. It's the way of the future, look at awkward black girl. After she won the webby (or maybe before) she was in talks with HBO. Though I don't know what happened with that the point is we have to develop our own audience. This shit will be treated like mixtapes and if your "mixtape" get's some type of praise/good reviews, etc. You will likely be able to feel the seats that people pay money for. Though it will be somebody come up out the blue and become a big name too.

We wouldn't have Denzel Halle, Samuel Jackson or even Mackie without Spike Lee.

The question is when will we have the next Spike lee.

Idris and chiwetel are the best of their generation, imo

They are in there 30s though. But I actually pay to see them, when they are in a movie

What happened to hi? He disappeared after notorious and red tails.
