Anybody here every use any of wep cracking software? Im trying to test my home network and want to learn how to crack the wep signal for "training purposes". I've searched all over youtube and the net but either the instructions are half ass written or the software used can't be located. Can someone holla back at me and help a brotha out?

Well all you really need to do is download a good toolbox such as BackTrack. I still use BackTrack3, but 4 is good too. You can get it here:

After you have downloaded it, you can either install it on a Linux box, or create a VM on your Windows box to install it on, or just burn a live CD, and you are all set.
Next you can find some good tutorials on YouTube that will show some good demos of using aircrack. Pretty simple... Really you should just drop using WEP all together and config your setup for WPA2. It is more secure, not uncrackable, but more likely to deter someone from trying to cracking your wireless network.. Have fun!

I am also using BT3. That shit has been working not stop since the begining of the semester. I can reach three different routers.
All of them using WEP.
Just easier to steal sometimes.
preciate the response thus far, but can some holla back at me with a tut or a link to some instructions? a lot of software/vid is not exactly user friendly and i learned that in a lot of cases you have to set up the correct parameters first. once again, preciate the response so far but pm your boi. not being ungrateful but this is an example of what i'm talking about. you have this so called informative video being drowned out with the music so you can't really concentrate of on what's being done. The txt on the screen is small so your out of luck also. This is why im asking for someone to holla back at me, to cut thru all the pretty vids and drop straight knowledge on newbie to the wep cracking game.
