Whitney Houston's estate said it was "extremely disappointed in Kanye's choice" to license a photo of the late singer's drug-covered bathroom counter for the cover of Pusha-T's new Daytona album.

Houston's estate registered its disapproval in a statement to ET on Tuesday. "Even in Whitney's death, we see that no one is exempt from the harsh realities of the world," the estate added.

West executive-produced Daytona and revealed the album cover on Twitter on May 24. Pusha-T told radio host Angie Martinez that the shot of Houston's bathroom was not initially supposed to be the album artwork.

"[Originally], the artwork, it was pictures that we all agreed on," the rapper explained. "[West] picked the photographer, I took these pictures, I was like, 'Yo, these are fresh.' I picked all of these pictures out, he had a little edit to it, how he wanted the actual grading of the picture to look. Picked the picture, great, we look, boom, boom, boom, it's good."

West changed his mind at the last minute, according to Pusha-T. "1 a.m., my phone rings, no caller ID," he continued. "[West says,] 'Hey, I think we should change the artwork, and I like this other artwork.' I said, 'hey, I don't want to pay for that, and I wasn't even gonna ask you to pay for that.'" West replied, "this is what people need to see to go along with that music." He covered the $85,000 licensing fee for the photo.

This was not the first time West showed that he was willing to spend money to make sure Daytona came out exactly the way he wanted. Pusha-T told Rolling Stone that his team was paying $7,000 a day to stay in the Wyoming resort where they completed the short LP.

"One day turns into 10 days of just [West] listening to samples," Pusha-T remembered. "On one hand you're like, 'Damn … he's really dialed in," and the other hand I'm like, [whispers] 'Fuck! This shit is like seven grand a day!'

If they're so disappointed then give the money back. Or better yet, Sue to reclaim the rights for the picture and Stop Licensing it.

They also might want to remember that they represent the estate of somebody who started her own reality show to feature her and Bobby's cracked-out antics.

Easy fix. Turn down the 85 grand and don't license the photo.

These.

If they are upset then they should never have took the check for 85K. Can't be that upset...........

It's also possible that they license the picture from The National Enquirer. If that's the case they would have needed to get permission from either Bobby or Whitney to use a photograph from inside their house.

Not necessarily. The National Enquirer probably paid for some type of 'exclusive rights' when they originally published the photo.

Pretty sure they never double-checked with Houston's Estate recently... if they already paid for it once, years ago. :smh:

It will soon be revealed WHO & HOW Kanye actually paid to use the photo, if Houston's Estate has a problem with it. Wait for it.

You can't publish a picture taken in someone's private property unless they give you permission first. That would mean that either Bobby Brown or Whitney Houston gave permission while they were still alive. Either that or they sued the paper and settled out of court

Exactly. Agreed. That's what I'm saying.

Bobby Brown has been quiet.

He may have been the one who 'gave permission' to use the photo, years ago.... but he might not be the legal 'Executor' of her Estate. :dunno:

Knowing large corporations like the National Enquirer... they probably put a clause in the original contract allowing them to RE-USE the photo (for any purpose), in perpetuity. If so, then they would never contact the Houston Estate, a decade later.... if they sold it to Kanye.

Even though Bobby Brown (or whoever gave permission :dunno:) never thought it could end up as someone's album cover, a whole decade later.
They probably thought it was only gonna be used 1x ONE TIME... in a Tabloid Mag article... that is gone within a week, or so. :smh:

"Who paid who"... and "who gave permission"... will probably be soon revealed, if the Estate has a problem with the usage of the photo.

Since that was both Bobby & Whitney's home at the time it wouldn't matter if he was the legal executor of the estate or not.

who is her estate now that her daughter is dead ?
Betting its Pat. She was the one who pushed and got that sorry aas reality show a few years ago after Whitney was gone that not even Bobby Christina wanted to be part of. She seemed like the type who wants to keep the spotlight and cash in on Whitney's death

The picture was taken by Bobby Brown's sister and sold to the NE. Whitney's Estate has nothing to do with it's sale or usage. Either NE bought the copy rights from Bobby's sister or they paid her to use it.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is available through a stock agency like Getty.

For the record no one wanted Whitney to do that show. She didn't want to at first either. She did it because Bobby needed it. His career was failing and he needed some shine.

This will all be revealed in an Up Coming Documentary on Whitney.

“Whitney,” which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday and arrives in theaters in the United States on July 6, is the first film completed with the cooperation of Houston’s family and featuring interviews with her ex-husband, Bobby Brown, and her mentor in the music industry, Clive Davis.

Pusha T agreed to the cover as well cause he could have said no if he didn't want it.

How do you know what he could or couldn't do ?

He said that Kanye overruled his choices for producers and burned bridges for him..Sure sounded like Kanye had total control

and anyway, they still trying to hide the fact that whitney was a base head..fuck em

How can somebody have total control on your album? Nah I don't buy that. If that's the case Pusha T is just a pawn that is controlled by somebody else that can't make any decisions on his on.
