The guy in charge of the program didn't know anything. He wanted me to practice in front of him but I told him I didn't want to strain my voice. I was lightweight scared they were going to cut me off, but everybody was feeling it

That's how you got to do these white folks. You got to sneak shit on them. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. If you ask permission, they will tell you no. But if you go ahead do it they might like it and be like... "Great job."

I didn't see it live because I was only 6 years old at the time, but YouTube has allowed many of the videos like this two surface and become part of Marvin Gaye's legacy
