What Kind Of Music Do Your Kids Listen To? You Should Check You Might Be Surprised

Check them Ipods! Have black kids started to walk away from rap music? In one large Northeastern city the answer is yes. At least in one predominately black and hispanic high school it has happened. I'm curious to know if this is just a regional thing or is it becoming national trend.

So you ask what is their alternative music choice? Black kids are now listening to hard rock. I never saw this coming. No one could've made me believe black kids would get so bored with black music that they would turn to hard rock.

There's always been a loose connection between rap and rock going back to Run DMC & Aerosmith with "Walk this Way." The question is, is this an indication that both rap and R&B music have become so weak and unimaginative it no long appeals to our kids?

Ok. This is easy.

If you have cable tv most kids watch MTV.

You know sometimes after the rap or R & B video goes off they'll play a pop or rock video.

So most kids will hear a rock song that they like. Go to school be in class bored and start to sing the song under there breath. A classmate hears it.

"You like that song too." XD

Next you've got a conversation about Rock music and what songs or bands they like.

Now they know that they're not alone and their peers accept and have a similar taste in music. They become more comfortable with listening to whatever they like.

Even though mainstream Rap and R&B songs are becoming repetitive. We all know that most kids listen to what their parents listen to. So I don't think kids are showing disinterest in Rap and R&B. It's just a lot easier and socially acceptable to listen to different music. The same thing is happening with fashion.

Plus it's ridiculously easy to find new music via the internet.

Good points, I do forget about the music vids. But reflecting back I remember (as a teen) the only time we listened to white music was when there was nothing and I mean nothing else to listen to.

You hit on another good point whereas rap and R&B songs have become very repetitive. Most groups all sing alike and sould alike. The same can also be said with many of the individual artist who all sound very similar. Its like originality is frowned upon, new artist are afraid to step out there and be themselves and try something different.

Thanks for the feedback.

People are just expanding their music tastes. I listen to a lil bit of everything: rap, R&B, rock, blues, and whatever that sounds good to me.

I really don't see anything wrong with this.
