What Is Meant By The Word "Respect" In Your Community???

It's a shame more of us do not give this a second thought, but I have had to speak to more than a few youths out here about how they term "Respect".
I have summarised that the word is phrased in several ways amongst our youth:

1. Respect via fear - intimidation as long as there is an advantage to be gained,
2. Respect via loyalty - do whatever to get the oppressor off your back,
3. Respect via conduct - just doing enough to get by.

Maybe the type of respect our forebears had, to actually build a community, has had to change within our communities since Caribbean/ African independence, and the slow but sure gain of the 'Black' economy.
Have we really respected each other or has the want of Garveyism bred an unnatural greed that has given more of our youths excuses to take power via the use of the gun?

Or have incidents like this stopped us from respecting each other, (in that individual gain is seen as more important than community gain) thus the only respect we give is to those living in a prison cell or those who have no other choices but to live in Port-au-Prince and the like?

My thought is that if we spent more time building an infrastructure, rather than worrying about what the New World Order and their agents of fear would do, the Black International public would make the African/Asiatic politicians act right and establish a method of rights enforcement that would be enforced by the black populace and not Governmental executives.

I may be asking much, but a lot must be asked of ourselves when independence is at stake...

Nice Post ....................

Respect Means Power, Money, Intimidation, Intelligence and is not exclusive to race........ I agree with the building of the Infrastructure scenario you mentioned, too many people spend too much time worrying about whitey and complaining and being reactionary and reactive (See Gayanation).....
