Plus rebates suck.
Plus who needs esata? Most of us probably don't even have esata interfaces on our computers!

respect your opinion. but i own both a 1tb and a 2tb cavalry, had the 1tb for over a year. not one issue yet. i use both of them to store my blu rays. transferring a 4gb or 8gb blu ray movie from your pc to an esata drive takes no time at all. If people dont have esata interfaces, they need to get it, especially if they plan on transferring large files. just saying.

With a drive that big you want ESATA everything you transfer to the drive will be 2 - 3 times slower with USB2.0.

I got a 2TB usb2.0 and I don't have any problems with transfer times. It's fast enough for me. Plus usb3.0 is out so esata probably won't even ever really catch on.

I bought this shit a few days ago from TigerDirect. I bought it to store my virtual machines so I can run them from my pc at home or my laptop when I'm out at a client's site. I really can't use it for this purpose and here are my issues:

PC specs:

2.7Ghz AMD Athlon Dual Core
8GM RAM
300GB HD
1.5TB HD
2 Nvidia Dual Display GeForce 9800 GTX+ 1GB each video cards (I run 4 widescreen monitors. Yes, I went FULL GEEK)
Windows 7 x64

Laptop specs:

Asus 2.3GHz Intel Duo Core
6GB RAM
500GB HD
Nvidia video card
17.3in display

I tried to copy 344GB of (3)vm's to the external drive & get a stupid error about folder xxxx isn't at the location where I'm copying FROM.

So, I do my research and find out several people have had similar problems with the model. Come to fuckin' find out, people running Windows 7 x64 & Nvidia video cards (like me) have this issue but, I can't figure out how to solve it.

My solution was connect my laptop to my Windows network & copy the vm's from my pc to my laptop, then copy the vm's to the external HD. This worked but, now the vm's run a the laptop with network bridging disabled (can't connect to my router) and the vm's won't even start when I run them with the external HD attached to my pc.

So, at this point I'm like FUCK IT. If I don't figure it out by the Sunday, I'll just return it for sumpin' else. I said all this to say, make sure you check known issues of your existing setup with the WD Elements 2TB USB2.0.

catch on? its very popular. guaranteed, if you have a pc that you built recently, the motherboard and the case, both have esata ports (depending on the models). Try transferring 20gbs worth of stuff from one usb to another, then try using esata.

All internal drives, i.e. hd/cd/dvd/blueray, use eSATA. It's the defacto standard now.

yeah exactly, and transferring from an internal esata connected drive to anything, is lightning fast. i doubt usb 3.0 will get that fast

I have a 3 external cases with 2x2TB , 1.5TB , 1TB drives in each. I takes about 3hrs to trasfer 900GB of data with esata, usb2.0 would be well over 6hrs.

I thought eSATA and SATA were 2 different things.

eSATA meaning external.

Anyways I don't think eSATA will ever replace usb. EVER!

Usb is too damn popular. Everything from cameras to keyboards.

Plus usb3.0 is almost twice as fast as SATA 3Gb/s and it is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices. So...

You right I have never tried esata but usb2.0 is fast enough for me.
