Eh hem ... like clockwork these shits come and have about a 4-5 year shelf life. I would NEVER invest or work for a social networking site unless I had a 3 year cash grab strategy.

You've got to know the lineage of these shits and remember they last right up until they go ghetto...

Yahoo Groups > Blackplanet > Friendster > Myspace > Facebook > NEXT?!!!

Has anything changed about Myspace? Why is it going downhill and why is Facebook so popular now?

myspace seems like its more for teenagers, most of the teenagers that made it popular are older now and have moved on to facebook.

a few reasons. Facebook started as a site that was only open to Ivy League college students and you couldn't log in without a school e-mail address. It slowly started letting other universities in. after a while, it had a really large base of people who used the internet alot (college students) who also happened to be really influential in terms of the culture. When they opened up to everybody, they pulled in a lot of people who would never ever sign up for MySpace (parents, people with multiple degrees, professionals, and all that). MySpace, meanwhile, is targeted at young people. When you look at studies of MySpace's demographics, it's younger, the people who use it are less educated and make less money.

But the bigger issue is probably one of utility. Facebook is easier to use than Myspace. Facebook has more useful shit on it than MySpace. (you can organize an event on Facebook --- try that shit on MySpace). Also, design-wise...if you read up on the company, MySpace sort of just kept stumbling forward. you can tell by the way it looks. They just kept adding new shit on top of new shit without trying to make it coherent. It's busy as shit, which is why the people who don't fuck with MySpace fuck with Facebook. you ain't going to log in at your corporate job to have somebody's loud-ass music pop at your desk and their blingies and shit. Facebook is clean and simple, with none of that obnoxious shit, and they re-design in it way that keeps that aesthetic.

I actually don't know anybody over the age of 18 who has a MySpace page, now that I think about it. Everybody who fucks with it are the kids I coach, little cousins or whatever.

Makes a lot of sense, thanks.

Myspace, Yahoo, Google, MSN...

they are all CIA-front operations used as surveillance.

What's interesting is people are volunteering to give up all their personal information, contacts, day-to-day activities... to the goobermint.

Cell phones are no different, so I guess it's par for the course.

Kids, nigga and attention starved ho's who post booty pics only to be discovered on BGOL and the like. Sexual preditors, too much content on a page that takes forever to load. Hacked accounts, poor security. In a nutshell irresponsible organization. Most straight up people won't open accounts because of tranny posters, spammers, etc. Porn should be on porn boards for adults not public access social sites where childern could be exposed. Guys and broads need to be more responsible. Myspace should be a contender but it has such a bad rep that I don't think it will ever recover.

They have tranny posters on Myspace??? I thought that shit was exclusive to BGOL.

Myspace always seemed like a desperate attention whoring and immature thing-- especially because of the booty pics and all the hookup attempts-- to me but I'm thinking of trying Facebook.

As soon as Myspace was bought by Rupert Murdoch (FOX), it's been a wrap.

And the main reason people closed their accounts, at least I did years ago, was because it's a fucking a mess. When you allow users to customize their pages, it becomes one big unreadable mess of gifs and jpegs, flashing and scrolling backgrounds, bad music and other silly shit.

Facebook is clean and you don't have to know HTML/CSS to use it. The whole family can use Facebook. Would you let your mother on Myspace? :smh:

So true. One of the main reasons I left Myspace alone is because of the clutter. You don't know what's up or whats down. Facebook is more appealing to everyone adults as well as young people.
