(WD TV-2 ) Western Digital upgrade from the existing WD TV media player

Western Digital really hit a sweet spot last year with its $130 WD TV HD Media Player. The thing pumped out 1080p over HDMI at an attractive price, and that's all most people really needed. The newly leaked WD TV-2 revisits the formula, but adds in network playback over the new Ethernet jack, DTS audio decoding, and a component video plug for folks caught in the technological no man's land between composite and HDMI. Outside of that there's a just plain silly amount of codec support, which is hard not to love. No word on price or a release date, but the leaked photos and detailed specs seem to imply this thing is ready for prime time.

The Popcorn Hour still kicks its ass in features/ network support but if they keep it priced under $150 it's still a better value.

now if it was WIFI then that would have been the shit and i would have copped that for the home theater system and keep the first generation one for the bedroom...

so whats the difference with this and the old one?

I know is there in the description

just tell me in one or 2 sentences

As you may have noticed, the new Popcorn Hour C-200 media box didn't quite make its anticipated July launch, but the company now says that as of 12 a.m. PST August 27, pre-orders will open allowing the willing faithful to put in a request for the first batch, anticipated to ship September 3 or thereabouts. Don't remember the June announcement? The $299 Sigma powered box takes HDD, Blu-ray discs, USB or network inputs of nearly any video or audio codec available and brings them to your living room. Since then, pics and video of the units guts and interface have leaked out on the forums, check after the break or beyond the read link for a better look.

That new popcorn hour is serious but its right there at the pricepoint where capable folks gotta at least think about building a media pc instead.

We'd been hearing that Western Digital was about to update its WD TV set-top media player lineup, and it looks like that leaked WD TV-2 has turned into the WD TV Live on the way to Best Buy. Nothing here too out of the ordinary -- wide codec support, Dolby Digital and DTS decoders, HDMI out, and an Ethernet jack for DLNA streaming and accessing YouTube, Flickr, and Pandora make this one a solid buy at $119 if you need it, but it's not going to blow up the world, you know? We're still saving up for monster Windows 7 / CableCARD Media Center rig.

Hope you didn't spend your well-earned shekels on a WD TV Mini -- it turns out that the HD-less wonder was just a waypoint to Western Digital's latest. The WD TV Live HD media player is an unassuming sort that doesn't really offer any surprises: 1080p video playback, support for all your favorite codecs, both Pandora and Live365 Internet radio apps, WiFi, two USB ports for external storage, HDMI, composite and component video outputs, SPDIF audio output, and more. No big whoop, right? All this can be yours for an MSRP of $149.99, but we hear that Best Buy has 'em for $119 -- and we wouldn't want you to pay any more than that. PR after the break.

Update: "That's WiFi ready." As in "WiFi adapter sold separately."

i have the a-110 for over a year now..i love it have 1tb inside it and 2 tb external..have yet to have one problem with it...the new device c-200 is still having some problems out there supposivly its beta firmware

To anyone that has the WD TV, what is the picture quality like? I'm currently streaming content from my computer to my Xbox 360. This isn't bad but the buffering and the picture quality are really starting to annoy me.

Can anyone tell me will the quality for the WD TV, HD or otherwise, for my d/l movies be as good as if I had watched them on the computer??

looks nice
but I'm cool with the one I got.....

Same here. Build in something wireless or an ability to add comments to the movies on my portable drive then maybe we can talk about an upgrade. The one thing I don't like about this I get so many videos, when I get around to em, I don't remember what they are about or what the movie rating is.

Would be nice if this upgrade could link up to imdb right quick when I select a video from my list I could get a summary. Then it would be worth it.

I love the WD TV units I have now, but the only problem with it is it's scketchy mkv support. is there a unit out there that can play mkv's with no problem whatsoever and maybe flv files?..................

Wait did the new WD-TV get rid of red-white-yellow RCA jacks? :smh:

In order for me to upgrade, they're going to have to do something about fast forwarding/rewinding capabilities.
