Ward dominates Dawson, makes him quit

I am sure that many of you saw the performance that Ward put on Dawson to win that fight...He sure stepped up to make dude quit...Andre was able to connect with various punches and utilized the hook very often, especially after the third round...

From the 4th round on, Ward gained more confidence and mix his offense around...His inside fighting was stellar and when he connected those two uppercuts near the end of that round, Dawson should have just stayed on that stool...

While it came out as a big victory for Ward, I see it just as bad for Dawson...It was a chance for him to prove himself against a young fighter with lots of skills but he virtually did nothing. I doubt that he would have beaten Ward at 175, he's just that much better. This along with the fight with Pascal may make some people question his competitiveness against young fighters...

What a performance from Andre Ward! I am completely impressed. Who wants to fight this guy. No one. Dawson is class and he got ran out of the gym. Ward is a beast.

It was an impressive performance. Ward is serious. At the same time, Dawson is lacking go hard. He just doesnt seem tough although he is talented.

I knew it !!! I knew it !!! I knew it!!! Dawson cried when he was fighting B-Hop!!! Ward is athletic and has that good footwork maaaaaaan!!

He did the right thing though. He had nothing left was just going to be taking punishment for another two rounds. Chad took a chance by going down and it didn't pay off, now he's going to need a very good, decisive win at light heavyweight to get some of his rep back. Hopefully HBO will give him the opportunity. Fighters that take chances should be rewarded, win or lose.

If Sergio loses to Chavez, Ward should be considered the number two fighter in the world, with an argument for number one since Mayweather probably won't fight until 2013.

I think Dawson should chill as long as possible, at least 9 months or so. Not to make excuses because I believe he gets beat regardless, but I do believe the weight was an issue for him, and his body needs time to recover from what he put it through to make this fight. He still has a lot of great fights left in him, but his inability to punch, as well as how drained he looked at fights end, it's difficult for the 'laymen' to understand what it means to the body, especially of a 30 plus year old man, to go through what these guys go through...

On the other hand, Ward is definitely on his way to a HOF career, he is seriously one of the most complete fighters fighting! Without Sergio losing I would still put him at #2, #1 actually, as cool, Floyd is out and won't fight for a while, and may still be at the top of his game, but I am not one to rate a guy based on what he has done, and frankly, when you look at the last 5-6 fighters Ward has beaten, they are much closer to their primes, and a better list based on their 'current' skillset than both Floyd and Martinez... Floyd has to fight again before I am willing to rank him anywhere at this point...

You can definitely make a case for Ward as the P4P king right now - and I'm not a Ward fan, but the dude deserves his due. That was a fucking clinic he put on last night.

Yeah... Ward is number one until Floyd fights again. Martinez gets no point for Chavez, that is just something that is supposed to happen.

Assist on the full fight:

Damn SOG put it on Chad. His performance was great. But WTF happened with Chad. It was like after he got his chin checked with the first two KD's he just had no desire to even try to win. WTF happened to Chad's jab? His fighting spirit? Hats off to Ward...masterful performance indeed. My dude is the truth.

Many people (including myself) have been questioning that about him for years. If he does come back up to 175, he would have to make a statement against someone like Cloud, Pascal, or even Cleverly to get the doubters off his back...

Nah, if Martinez goes in a beats Chavez, he deserves the top spot over Ward. He's not beating the Chavez of years past but a guy who's worked himself into a legitimate top middleweight. Given Chavez's advantage's in size and youth, a Martinez win would be a significant victory.
Yeah, it's supposed to happen but Ward really hasn't beaten anyone he wasn't supposed to beat. He wasn't the biggest name but he was the best fighter in the Super 6 and Dawson came down to fight him, which most observers thought would give him an advantage.

The difference is there is better fighters out there than Chavez. I'll give credit for trying to get Cotto, Floyd and Manny, but Kirkland, Canelo and Angulo have been around while Martinez was dusting off European nobodies. Yes... Chavez beat Lee, but the average light heavyweight should be able to do that because Lee wasn't that good.

Ward beat everyone pretty much. Yeah, we gave Ward the edge against Dawson, but no one expected domination.

Being a nobody doesn't mean you're not a credible challenger and nothing stopped those guys from moving up to middleweight to challenge Martinez for the title.
Who's better at middleweight than Chavez right now? Even if you throw in Kirkland and Angulo, coming off their last performances, they arent any better and are, in fact, worse. Canelo is doing well but Andy Lee is a better name on Chavez's record than anyone Alvarez has fought.
Ward's beaten everyone but so Martinez and so has Chavez. Martinez has been a top performer longer so he should be considered, imo, P4P number one (with Floyd inactive) and Ward number two.

We have to agree to disagree.

I gotta give it to Sergio right now if he beats Chavez, seniority and shit. Dude been in line longer. Ward's gotta wait his turn. I have no doubt he'll be the P4P very soon though.

this will definitely happen if he moves up to 175 next year and becomes the best in that division, too

If he can go to 175 and beat name guys in that division, he would earn the right to be the P4P kingpin.

Chad Dawson's worst nightmare. I think he is banking on running back to his division and redeeming himself. If Ward follows him, he might have to hang it up.
