VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) -- Shane Clark scored a career-high 25 points as Villanova outmuscled Stony Brook in an 86-64 victory Friday that marked the season opener for both teams.
Villanova outrebounded Stony Brook 35-19 and outscored the Seawolves 40-12 in the paint as the Wildcats won their home opener for the 40th consecutive season.
Clark, who was questionable coming into the game with a sprained right thumb, did his damage from the inside and the outside, hitting four of his five shots from beyond the 3-point arc and also leading Villanova with seven rebounds.
Fellow forward Dante Cunningham scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds for Villanova, which broke open a tight game early and led by double digits for the entire second half.
Freshman Malcolm Grant scored 16 points in his college debut and hit four 3-pointers while Scottie Reynold, last year?s Big East Rookie of the Year, scored 13 and dished out six assists.
