I can't see that, those characters were nothing alike IMO.
As far as Bale I fuck with him but based off that trailer his physical transformation/make-up stands out more than his acting.
I think Sam Rockwells acting stood out more than anyone else based just off that trailer.

This dude physically transforms his body for his roles.... I’ve seen this dude play a preppy frat boy, a serial killer.. a 1920s paperboy.. A 90 pound mechanic.. a mobster.. Jon Conner.. Batman... a cop that does Gun Fu.. Japanese prisoner of war... I could go on...

I like Christian Bale and he's a talented actor but Daniel Day Lewis' acting ability is way beyond his IMO.
And keep in my DDL's method acting involves really studying and becoming characters beyond just the physical look.
This man actually lived and walked around NYC as the butcher while filming and never broke character.
I remember seeing an interview with Liam Neeson saying that DDL use to come to the gym in their hotel and would work out in character

I’ve seen Christine bale play multiple roles and in each role he conveys a completely different character.
And again... Christine went a year on A Apple and a cup of coffee to lose weight to look like the character in the machinist and then he had 6 months to gain weight to look like Bruce Wayne..
I mean you can’t even tell... that the machinist ended 6 months before filming began on Batman Begins...
