Verizon Chrome OS tablet by HTC on sale November 26

HTC is building a Chrome OS tablet to be released on the Verizon network on November 26. Coming from an anonymous source, Downloadsquad says that this tip makes a lot of sense. Google and Verizon have been the best of friends lately, making Motorola’s Droid line of Android devices the flagship of Verizon’s product lineup and releasing a joint controversial Net Neutrality legislature proposal encouraging the lawmakers to draft laws with the consumer’s interests in mind.

The release date conveniently coincides with Black Friday 2010, the busiest shopping day of the year in the US. It’s the day after Thanksgiving, when the rush for Christmas shopping really begins, and retailers slash prices on anything that will take it.

Downloadsquad predicts that that the tablet will be considerably cheaper that Apple’s iPad, if not totally free with a Verizon contract. The device will likely run on Nvidia’s Tegra 2 architecture, have a 1280x720 touchscreen display, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB SSD. The general connectivity options (Wifi, 3G, GPS) will all likely be present as well.

According to Engadget, the specs described is based on the imagination of Download Squads' Lee Matthews and not on real knowledge of what the true spec is. link I still want to see the specs to know if it's worth it.

I like the fact that companies are trying new things but Chrome OS is going to be a big flop and will not be able to compete with Android.

I'm not even so sure of what the Chrome OS is supposed to have in it. Have you seen specs of what Chrome OS is suppose to be good at doing?

To me, it doesn't have to outdo Android, it only need be good at what IT does. But I don't know what that "good" is.

Google might as well dump Chrome OS and focus on Android. Shit combine both. Android already has a name and has overshadowed Chrome OS.

Chrome OS is an internet only OS which means that all Applications are internet based and to my knowledge do not store any information locally. So basically Chrome OS is a web browser for an Operating System which in my opinion is a horrible idea. Not only does storing everything on 3rd party servers destroy your privacy it also makes it impossible for you to access your information without an internet connection. What good is Chrome OS if you're on an Airplane that doesn't have Wifi? Not good at all.

Very, very true.

it will use the chrome store apps that google is supposed to be launching fairly soon and since it will come from vzw it will have always on 3G and use the wireless FIOS verizon wants to push as a mobile media hub with access to all fios content, combine that with google tv and u have instant access to most media on tv anywhere where u get a mobile signal.

ChromeOS + VZ FIOS+ GoogleTV + 3G connectivity, it sounds like a winner besides google is going to have native apps for chromeOS according to more recent news on its development but the emphasis for this device will be cloud based services so don't buy it if u don't want to use cloud services. if u don't use itunes, u wouldn't buy an ipad, same with this if u don't use cloud services don't buy this.

Toshiba is releasing an android tablet in oct as are others...there will be choices.

to me, with vzw testing out a $99 unlimited everything plan and android 2.2 now having mobile hotspot this device likely will use some of android's work and have a mobile hotspot as well and b a 3G hub, it would definitely have a market...portable media center with access to most channels that fios has with the ability to supply internet access to different devices, this could garner vzw a lot of customers...

A standalone program and the "cloud" are two very different things, as Deuterion pointed out

somewhat disagree, this will have built in native apps just to what extent is anyone guess...too early to write it off until full details are out but looking at what both sides are demo'ing and attempting to do there would be a workaround but again it's a joint effort with vzw so it'd come with 3G and probably wifi...

Stop making stuff up - here is Google's own explanation of Chrome OS.

At 2:00 in video.

"What if your browser was your operating system?...a-and so check this out this means that you don't have to deal wi-with managing programs, or nagging updates, or lost files, or confusing...settings, or blue screens of doom, an-and there's no nagging updates. Just your browser."

"Which means you can still listen to music, you can watch movies, interact with friends, you're creating documents, you're playing games, you're writing your e-mails, you're doing all this stuff that you're already doing on the internet but here's the thing...none of this stored on your computer."

"Where is it? It's on, the internet"
