UPDATE: Shooter Reported Dead At Reynolds High School Near Portland

TROUTDALE, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a shooter is dead at a high school in the Portland, Oregon, area, and the situation is stabilized.

The Multnomah County sheriff's office said there were reports of shots fired about 8 a.m. Tuesday at Reynolds High School in Troutdale.

Students were evacuated from the school, hands on their heads, to be reunited with their parents in a supermarket parking lot.

TROUTDALE -- Police responded shortly after 8 a.m. to a report of shots fired at Reynolds High School.

Police confirmed about 9:20 a.m. that a shooter in the incident was dead.

A number of emergency vehicles have been staged near the school. A significant number of officers have arrived and surround the school.

A Multnomah County sheriff's office spokesman confirmed the response was for an active shooter.

A student tweeted that the school is in lockdown and a number of police cars have rolled up. A second student has tweeted that she heard gunfire. A third reported a police officer racing towards the school's gymnasium.

SWAT teams were working their way through the school, releasing students from classrooms who are leaving with their hands over their heads.

LIfeflight landed near the school but has yet to tranport a patient.

A parent, Dawn, told KGW that her son Josiah was safe, but knew nothing of the situation.

"I just heard he was okay but he doesn't know what's going on. I just want to see him to make sure he's okay. To personally see him. I'm scared. I just don't know what to do. I didn't know where to go. I just came here. Some people got texts. Some didn't. So we just wait."

I don't think the school will actually provide those shells. That's not their responsibility (yet). This is more of a niche market. I don't believe most white parents believe they're are capable of witnessing violence from people who look like them. That's what makes this so awesome. I am watching a snake swallow itself.

There was a shooting at a school less than a mile from my house. It was covered for quite some time. You can feel the reach for a story from all 3 major english speaking networks. We for the most part value our education, the bullshit with guns happens when we leave the school.

Black schools usually have deep ass security. Usually only one entry point open and it's guarded. No need for silly blankets. First thing you see at my old school is an armed security guard. Some schools have had metal detectors in place for over two fucking decades. The measures have been proven to work to stop school violence.

If whites want the shootings to stop, they just have to employ the same security measures already in use. But they will blame mental illness. Guns. Everything but themselves for not using the same school security measures that were put in place during the crazy violence in the early 90s.
