Thats why I respected Esther Rolle (Florida from Good Times) so much...thry wanted her character to be a single mom, but she fought producers to have a husband and thats how we got James Evans!!

Actually, the Florida Evans character was already married on Maude. John Amos still played her husband but he was named Henry Evans and he was a fireman. I don't remember if they were supposed to have kids or not.
