The European Union on Monday condemned attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon and rejected allegations that UN Secretary General António Guterres is responsible for obstructing the Israeli army.

Sixteen European Union countries contribute to the 10,000-strong United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, who have been patrolling the border area between Lebanon and Israel for nearly 50 years.

Israel is demanding that they leave the area.

UNIFIL said Israeli tanks forcibly entered the gates of one position early Sunday and destroyed the main gate. They later fired smoke rounds near peacekeepers, causing skin irritation. UNIFIL called the incident a "further flagrant violation of international law."

International criticism is growing after Israeli forces repeatedly fired on peacekeepers since the start of its ground operation in Lebanon two weeks ago. Five peacekeepers have been wounded in attacks that struck their positions in recent days, with most of them blamed on Israeli forces.

'It's completely unacceptable'

Relations had already worsened between Israel and the United Nations over the way Israel has conducted its fighting against Hamas in Gaza.

Israel launched the offensive against Hamas after the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel in Gaza in which 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were taken hostage, according to Israeli tallies. Over 42,000 Palestinians have been reported killed in the offensive, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

In an unprecedented move, Israel earlier this month said the UN secretary general was persona non grata in Israel.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said UNIFIL's "work is very important. It's completely unacceptable attacking United Nations troops."

Speaking in Luxembourg before chairing talks between EU foreign ministers, Borrell underlined that the UN Security Council decides whether UNIFIL should be moved, "so stop blaming secretary Guterres."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday rejected accusations that Israeli troops had deliberately targeted UNIFIL peacekeepers in Lebanon as "completely false" and repeated a call for them to be withdrawn from combat zones.

He said the military did its utmost to avoid harming UNIFIL personnel, while striking Hezbollah fighters. "But the best way to assure the safety of UNIFIL personnel is for UNIFIL to heed Israel's request and to temporarily get out of harm's way."

On Sunday, Netanyahu had called for UNIFIL to heed Israel's warnings to evacuate the area, accusing them of "providing a human shield" to Hezbollah.

In a video addressed to Guterres, who has been banned from entering Israel, Netanyahu told the UN chief "to get [UNIFIL] out of the danger zone."

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, whose country is one of Europe's strongest backers of Israel, said the attacks are "simply unacceptable" and UNIFIL will not be leaving.

"No, they will not withdraw. Yes, they will continue to fulfil the mandate. And yes, we demand on each and every party to respect this mandate, and respect the security and safety of our blue helmets," he told reporters.

Ireland accuses Israel of working to undermine UN

Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin is accusing Israel of trying to prevent the world from seeing what its troops are doing in Lebanon and Gaza, and of working to undermine the United Nations.

Asked what Israel's aim might be in demanding that UNIFIL peacekeepers leave their bases, Martin said "essentially to drive the eyes and ears out of south Lebanon and to give itself free rein."

Two Indonesian peacekeepers were injured on Friday after two explosions near a watchtower in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL said. This followed two earlier injuries of peacekeepers after Israeli soldiers fired on UN positions on Wednesday and Thursday. France, Italy and UN Secretary General António Guterres have condemned the attacks. The Israeli military said it is conducting a review of the incident. 3:33
"We cannot have an undermining and a chipping away of the status or the credibility or structures of the United Nations, and particularly its peacekeeping forces," Martin said in Luxembourg, where EU foreign ministers are meeting.

"We see what's happening in northern Gaza, for example, in terms of the necessity of eyes and ears on the ground. The world has really no full picture of what's happening in Gaza," he told reporters.

"Israel is essentially now undermining [not only] the United Nations and the United Nations peacekeeping force, but the very rules-based international order, and it needs to step back."

Martin called on his EU counterparts "to stand up now on the side of what's right and proper and moral in terms of humanity."

A spokesperson for Germany's Foreign Office told reporters in Berlin on Monday that "all parties to the conflict, including the Israeli army, are obliged to direct their combat operations exclusively against military targets of the other party to the conflict." Sebastian Fischer said a comprehensive investigation is expected and talks on the matter were being held with the Israeli side.

Israel strikes northern Lebanon

Israel expanded its targets in its war with Hezbollah militants in Lebanon on Monday, killing at least 21 people in an airstrike in the north, health officials said.

The strike in the Christian-majority town of Aitou hit a house that had been rented to displaced families, the town's mayor Joseph Trad told Reuters. In addition to the deaths, eight people were injured, the Lebanese health ministry said.

Rescue workers at the site of the strike searched through piles of rubble on Monday. Burned vehicles and trees could be seen strewn across the ground.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah resumed a year ago when the militant group began firing rockets at Israel in support of Palestinian militants Hamas at the start of the Gaza war. It has escalated sharply in recent weeks.

So far the main focus of Israel's military operations in Lebanon has been in the south, the Bekaa Valley in the east and the suburbs of Beirut.

Israeli strikes have killed at least 2,309 people in Lebanon over the last year, the Lebanese government said in its daily update. The majority have been killed since late September, when Israel expanded its military campaign. The toll does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.

Israel says its operations in Lebanon are aimed at securing the return of tens of thousands of people displaced from their homes in northern Israel.

UN Security Council backs Lebanon peacekeepers after Israeli attacks

UNITED NATIONS, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The United Nations Security Council on Monday expressed strong concern after several U.N. peacekeeping positions in southern Lebanon came under fire amid clashesbetween the Israeli military and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants.
In a statement adopted by consensus, the 15-member council also urged all parties - without naming them - to respect the safety and security of the personnel and premises of the U.N. peacekeeping mission, known as UNIFIL.
"U.N. peacekeepers and U.N. premises must never be the target of an attack," said the council, reiterating its support for UNIFIL and the operation's importance for regional stability.

The Security Council also called for the full implementation of its resolution 1701, which was adopted in 2006 with the aim of keeping peace on the border between Lebanon and Israel. The council "recognized the need for further practical measures to achieve that outcome," but did not offer specifics.

Since the start of Israeli ground operation in Lebanon on Oct. 1, UNIFIL positions have been affected 20 times, including by direct fire and an incident on Sunday when two Israeli tanks burst through the gates of a UNIFIL base, the U.N. said.

"Five peacekeepers have been injured during these incidents, including one peacekeeper who sustained a bullet wound," U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters on Monday. "The source of that gunfire has yet to be confirmed by UNIFIL."

For the past two weeks Israel has been telling U.N. peacekeepers to move 5 km (3 miles) back from the so-called Blue Line - a U.N.-mapped line separating Lebanon from Israel and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights - for their own safety.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday in a statement addressed to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres: "The time has come for you to withdraw UNIFIL."

U.N. peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix said on Monday that U.N. troops would not move. After briefing the Security Council behind closed doors, he told reporters that he would meet with Israeli U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon on Tuesday.

Lacroix added that the U.N. is "reviewing constantly the situation, and we have contingency planning for all scenarios."

UNIFIL MANDATED 'TO ASSIST'

Deputy U.S. Ambassador Robert Wood told reporters ahead of the council meeting that it was important that UNIFIL be able to do its job.

The Security Council authorized UNIFIL - under resolution 1701 - "to assist" Lebanese forces in ensuring southern Lebanon is "free of any armed personnel, assets and weapons other than those of the government of Lebanon."

"We have to stand against ... every suggestion that if resolution 1701 was not implemented it's because UNIFIL did not implement, which was never its mandate," said Lacroix, stressing that UNIFIL had a supporting role.

Danon said last week that the Lebanese army and UNIFIL had failed to gain control of the area.

He argued that Israel was now acting to enforce resolution 1701, telling the Security Council: "Our soldiers are now in the field, along the border in Lebanon, exposing and dismantling Hezbollah's infrastructure."

The United States and France have said that strengthening Lebanon's army would be crucial to implementing resolution 1701.
"UNIFIL cannot prevent the hostilities," Russian U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said on Monday. "UNIFIL is being jeopardized and endangered and one country openly threatens its personnel, which is unacceptable."

UNIFIL is also authorized under resolution 1701 "to assist" – if requested by the Lebanese government – in preventing the illicit transport of weapons into the country. The resolution 1701 also bans parties from crossing the Blue Line by ground or air. U.N. officials have long reported violations by both sides.

Danon told the Security Council last week that it "must ensure the right mechanisms are in place for the Lebanese army and UNIFIL to meet their obligations."

When asked what that might look like, Danon told Reuters on Monday that he wanted to see "a more robust mandate for UNIFIL to deter Hezbollah."

Any changes to UNIFIL's mandate would have to be authorized by the Security Council. Diplomats said there are no such discussions at the moment. The mission is currently authorized until Aug. 31, 2025.

 what they gonna do

“The Lebanese Foreign Ministry says they have submitted a new complaint to the United Nations Security Council regarding Israel's repeated targeting of civilians and ambulance crews”

soooooo what y’all gonna do

“UN peacekeepers say an Israeli tank opened fire on their stronghold in southern Lebanon.”

And they were wrong then, but they are absolutely in the right today......

Israel gives no fucks
.....
That is true they were wrong. Some people would be totally surprised if they knew more about that. But Israel got to be doing a lot of killing of women and children for an American soldier to set himself on fire. I am not over there to witness it but if I was I know it would be something I would never forget. I was not in Rwanda but after constantly researching it I will never forget it and what was revealed to me.

Bruh, the reported math is enough for me to know they are on some fuck shit......

When 10/7 happened there was a video that was quickly released that showed an IDF helicopter just shooting at people indiscriminately......

The attack happened at a music festival. Those dudes were using night vision and just shooting at anyone running.

So, I really question the 1,200 Israeli lives lost number. Even if only 20 were killed by friendly fire, (but looking at that video there had to be more than that), they need to release that number and remove it from their official count.

But even still, 1,200 Israelis compared to 40,000+ Palestinians (mostly women and children).......

There's no way to justify the extreme prejudice they are using. They are blatantly targeting hospitals, schools and residential areas.....

And the fact that OUR tax dollars are helping them utterly disgusts me!

AIPAC will primary every congressman who agrees to this.

And that's the problem, they used our nations greed, read as "capitalism" against itself.......

Those representatives on both sides will either have to face the real possibility of losing their jobs in the name of doing what's right or keep supporting these atrocities in the name of collecting whatever incentives they receive in exchange for selling out.

The fact that a foreign nation can lobby and threaten our elected officials is wild to me in general. But somehow that shit is allowed with them and only them.

And that party was held just outside Gaza. Ultimate disrespect. Like Coachella being held next to the old Calliope in New Orleans or Little Vietnam Atlanta. Flaunting your wealth and status next to people living in 50 years of open air prison complete with Apartheid "papers" shakedowns and curfews. They had it coming. The struggle is the same worldwide just different languages and years.

I didn't know that the party was so close to gaza

Hopefully that retaliation against Israel will receive. Will be epic and devastating. Hope those pieces of shit gets wiped off the globe.

U.S. Vetoes Gaza Cease-Fire Resolution at U.N. Security Council

Nov. 20, 2024Updated 11:41 a.m. ET
The United States, which has blocked four other resolutions, said it vetoed the most recent version because it did not make the release of hostages a precondition for a truce.

The United States on Wednesday vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, where fighting has entered a 14th month and a humanitarian crisis is intensifying.
Fourteen Security Council members voted for the resolution, while only the United States voted against it.
The United States said it vetoed the resolution, the fifth the Council has taken up, because it did not make the cease-fire contingent on the release of the hostages held in Gaza. The resolution does call for the release of all hostages, but the wording suggests that their release would come only after a cease-fire were implemented.
The veto was the fourth time the United States blocked an effort by the Council to demand a cease-fire since the war began over a year ago, when Hamas led an attack on Israel and took more than 200 people hostage. More than 40,000 people have been killed in Gaza over the course of the war, according to the local health authorities, and a U.N.-backed panel warned that the territory faces the risk of famine.
The veto comes as Washington has been working for months to help negotiate a cease-fire between the parties and a deal to release the hostages. About 100 hostages remain in Gaza, and the Israeli authorities believe that around a third are dead.
“We could not support an unconditional cease-fire that failed to release the hostages,” said Robert A. Wood, an American ambassador to the United Nations. “These two urgent goals are inextricably linked. This resolution abandoned that necessity."
The resolution called for an immediate and unconditional cease-fire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, increased and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid and for all parties to enable the battered Palestinian aid agency UNRWA to carry out its work in the territory.
The resolution was put forth by 10 nonpermanent members of the Security Council: Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Switzerland.
“It is a sad day for the Security Council, for the United Nations and for the international community,” said Algeria’s ambassador, Amar Bendjama. He said the 14 members who supported the resolution had spoken for the wider international community.
The draft resolution was negotiated for weeks, Guyana’s ambassador, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, said ahead of the vote. She said the Council needed to respond to concerns “over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza,” and particularly the dire situation in northern Gaza.
The Security Council, whose permanent members are divided over the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, has struggled to speak in one voice and play an effective role in mediating or ending these conflicts. The United States’ staunch support for Israel, and the resulting deadlock over Gaza in the Council, has generated criticism and frustration from the wider U.N. membership, including from some of America’s closest allies, the permanent council members Britain and France.
The Council has tried to bring the war in Gaza to the table for action in the past year with multiple resolutions. The United States blocked three previous resolutions calling for a cease-fire and release of hostages saying at the time that Israel had the right to defend itself and it was not yet time for the war to end.
Russia and China vetoed an American resolution in March that called for “an immediate and sustained cease-fire,” in a vote in which Algeria joined them and Guyana abstained. That month, the United States abstained from voting on a resolution that called for a temporary halt to the fighting for the month of Ramadan.

Make no mistake about it, Isreal is cleaning shop. They have full intention of ridding Palestinians from that region. They have made that space unlivable. They will not allow Palestinians to rebuild. After a decade or so, we will forgive and forget. They know this. The West Bank will be next. This is not about the 1200 people, this is about something they just had planned to do anyway. It is genocide and the US is complicit.

Israel has withdrawn from the UN human rights council, citing the “demonization of the one democracy in the Middle East - Israel”.

Iran raps US, Israel’s role in ‘collapse' of intl. legal order, ‘erosion’ of UN Charter

Thursday, 24 July 2025 1:12 AM [ Last Update: Thursday, 24 July 2025 1:32 AM ]

A senior Iranian diplomat has denounced the United States and the Israeli regime’s role in the underway "collapse" of the international legal order and "erosion" of the United Nations Charter.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi made the remarks in New York on Wednesday, addressing a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the region, including the issue of Palestine.

He described the US and the Israeli regime as the “main source of instability” in the West Asia region, citing their individual or joint atrocities against regional countries.

Washington and Tel Aviv, he added, posed “a major threat to international peace and security” as a result of their acts of deadly regional military adventurism.

The official cited the regime’s US-enabled war of genocide on the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank, Syria, and Yemen as well as its unprovoked 12-day war on the Islamic Republic last month.

Referencing the war on Gaza, he said the October 2023-present campaign of unbridled aggression had featured killing or maiming tens of thousands, bombing hospitals and schools, and murdering UN staff and humanitarian workers.

Millions had also been displaced, and starvation “weaponized against an entire population,” Gharibabadi added, pointing to Tel Aviv’s near-total siege of the Palestinian territory.

He described the situation as worsening, saying the regime now employed a “systematic method of killing” by “deliberately targeting starving civilians” awaiting aid.

The diplomat called the method that had seen Israeli forces kill more than 1,000 civilians swarming around Israeli- and American-sponsored so-called aid distribution points, “premeditated mass murder.”

The overall war, Gharibabadi said, amounted to “organized and systematic annihilation of a besieged civilian population by an occupying regime, supported and shielded by the United States.”

He was pointing to Washington’s providing the warfare with ceaseless political, military, and intelligence support.

Amid the situation, the Security Council was expected to take action towards ensuring an immediate and permanent ceasefire, provision of unimpeded humanitarian access for Gazans, and release of arbitrarily detained Palestinians.

The body was also required to reject the regime’s forced displacement plans, enable full UN membership for Palestine, and ensure accountability on the part of Tel Aviv.

Turning to the June 13-25 war on Iran that took place amid unprecedented American support, Gharibabadi said the assault was one of an “unprovoked and unlawful” nature.

He noted how the aggression targeted the Islamic Republic’s civilian and nuclear infrastructures, including nuclear sites under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s safeguards.

Iran, the official stated, demanded urgent Security Council action concerning such atrocities.

He, meanwhile, denounced Dorothy Shea, Washington’s UN envoy, for accusing the Islamic Republic earlier during the meeting of being behind ongoing instances of regional instability instead of taking up responsibility on the part of her country for the underway situation.

“The US representative is in no moral, political, or legal position to lecture or blame Iran,” Gharibabadi concluded.

The UN is The West, though. That's why a new and fair UN-Type global organization should be created and implemented without the control of The West.
