Ok, so I was listening to Ab Soul's Book of Soul and his Control System album (which I totally fucks with) and then I was listening to his song Nibiru (Hot shit right here):

Ab Soul - Nibiru

And as I was looking at the comments someone recommended The Underachievers. I didn't know who they were, but I like Pro Era (Capital Steez, Joey Badass, etc.) and didn't know these dudes were associated with them.

Hopefully they get a buzz along with Pro Era because if they do, then this new crop of hip hop artists holds a lot of promise.

Their album is called Indigoism:

You can stream their whole album on Datpiff:

Here's the song that caught my attention:

The Underachievers - Gold Soul Theory

Their interview explaining how their group formed:

The Underachievers - Philanthropist

Let me know what y'all think. I think even though they are from the NYC/East Coast, they got kind of a Hieroglyphics feel to them mixed with Cannibal Ox. They definitely are buzz worthy, IMO.

Appreciate the gold soul drop...will def listen to album...thanks

Listening to the album...like these dudes music a lot...thanks again for the drop

@ carlito...herbs shuttles is tight

im glad that the getmoneygetmoneykillniggasgetmoney era is coming to an end. or at least theres a lil balance now...

these new young dudes are passionate about making music for the sake of making music and spreading their message. that gives me hope for hiphop.

you know WHAT let me tell you something. I hate hip hop. Now I despise that shit. I live in a trendy mostly white affluent neighborhood and I'd be mortified if my neighbor in the next brownstone heard me playing that shit. But you laid out you post so nicely I decided to press play on the first video Ab Soul...And that shit was garbage!! It's fucking hot stank august in NY garbage. It's worst than the Trash Dr Truth puts out on the curb after a weekend of faggotry!

Yes, I agree Main. I definitely see a shift in music to where the new artist are starting to pay homage to their roots and add a lil something to it.

I'm curious to see if this trend stays around as long as the fuck nigga music of trash from all around the country, not just down South as many have come to believe. Yeah it looks promising.

You know Repost, I'm not even gonna respond like most would to you. As a tax paying citizen that has a respected career and his own mind, I will blast whatever the fuck I want IN MY HOUSE! Outside of my residence I am required to have respect for other's ears.

As we live in the same city, I know you have been plagued by certain "fuck nigga" music so I will post another one of Ab Soul's songs. I'm curious to see if you have the same opinion about it as the one I posted. Let's see if you give it a chance...

Yeah I can't be concerned with what other's think all the time.

As far as the drop, much obliged and you're welcome...

I stumbled across these dudes and this album in Kefta's music thread. It's on the 2nd to the last page. These brothers are tight I keep it on rotation.

props for the drop. I've been really searching for dope shit to listen to lately instead of just bitching about the shit being pushed by the mainstream.

This shit definitely has a 90s Bay feel to it. I fucks with it. That REVELATIONS track goes hard as fuck!!! That 808 with the organ and blues guitar is fucking bonkers!!!!

Between Black Hippy, Pro Era, I really feel (hope) there is a new movement and pushback against the shit that's being played ad nauseum.

A couple of other people I'm fucking with right now is Jadon Woodard, Dom O Briggs & Raliq Bashard.

Yeah it's one of the few albums that has come out of late that I can listen straight through and keep on rotation.

This right here is one of those songs:

This shit goes HARD. I'm fucking with this Beast Coast movement as much as I'm fucking with that Black Hippy shit. I'm gonna go grab that Zombie shit next.

Vision, you ain't lying. I got up this morning, threw this on and beasted (no pun intended) through my workout.

To be honest it's a damn shame man. IMHO the most talented out of all of them, Capital Steez, is dead from committing suicide. I have been reading about a lot of speculation as far as the cause of his death (what led him to take his life) and it's just sad that such a talented brotha would throw life away. However, he felt there was something far greater in store for him on the other side, so he wanted to go quickly.

Two of my favorite Capital Steez joints:
Vibe Ratin':

Doggybag:

Capital Steez, R.I.P. young man... :smh:

Damn man...I'd didn't even know east flat was reppin like this...nice drops man

OnSlaught.... check out this dude outta Philly named Chill Moody too. I'm a bit biased because I'm from Philly but dude's grind is crazy. He makes good shit. Not lyrically beasting like Kendrick etc, but dude is really nice with it.

IK wassup brethren? Long time man. As far as your post...:dance:

right here bredren, just on the grind. good to see folks puttin people on that shit that has some substance and not that typical radio ish. Kefta posted the underachiever's album in his thread awhile back. i been bumpin them since then:dance:

Was listen to The FlatBush Zombies and gatewayed to the UA some months back very talented group of rappers from NY. BeastCoast:cool: I hope there at Rock The Bells.

Props. One of da many ways to discover new, dope artists. That's why there's no excuse as to why niggas should still be bitchin' about "hip hop is dead" b/c their scope of music is regulated to radio play alone.

Just checked him out. He's nice. He got a flow and a sound that's reminiscent of Smoke DZA, just a more clean cut version. He's from West Philly right?

I think Will should back him or at least support/show love to a fellow West Philly cat who's on the come up if he's hangin' with Gillie.

I think your synopsis was dead on...

Most def...Shout out to Kefta! We might not always see eye to eye on the racial shit, but we always in step with one another on the music tip.

If he created a thread a while back my bad. I just heard these dudes and thought this is what I like and others should be blessed to hear something different from mainstream.
