U.S. Considers Opening a Diplomatic Post in Iran

These are delaying tactics. The sudden drop in the price of crude and this shit is telling me that there is a delay somewhere and they are trying to slow down the impending avalanche. The only problem is that they let out Pandora and they can't control it (Spain is literally on the edge of collapse right now). I was suspecting some dumb ass moves like this when the Irish rejected the Lisbon Treaty but these folks cannot do everything to a tee like they want to. They might as well let the economies of Europe and the Americas implode so that we can go to war with the Asian powers.

This is a useful device for the USA. It allows them to bring personnel into the country protected by diplomatic immunity, to see things first hand and to get into contact with dissidents and provide money for them etc.

And, of course, if we remember the U.S. Embassy hostage crisis (now, how was that really started? Any links for both sides of the story?), it could provide a useful spark legitimising U.S. military intervention (as did the last crisis).

It was that crisis which won the election for Regan against Carter and it is accepted that Regan was negotiating with Iran to stop any compromise until after the election.

The U.S. and Iran have worked of course very well together - especially with the Republicans - anyone NOT heard of the Iran-Contra affair?

don't forget italy.

if it wasn't for germany they will be useless. and ireland i starting to slow down. i wonder how long till the lovefest with nygerians end and all hell breaks loose.

100% true. Yeah, Ireland. It doesn't matter if they went with the accord or not..I suspect they will get the nasty brunt of the slow down and be forced to go with the treaty. I honestly think we at the precipice but with these U.S./Iran events I'm not even sure what will push it over the edge. I wouldn't put it past the U.S. Gov to send diplomats to have them "kidnapped" or "murdered" as an excuse to start war.

The future seems to be getting clearer and clearer.

If the US (and the present world) economy is going to survive, it needs oil at affordable prices. There is only one way of doing this. Through allowing Iraq and Iran - as independent, sovereign states - to offer their oil on the international markets.

The US is going to have to spell out the realities to Israel - you are a small unimportant country with no oil. Therefore we're abandoning you.

This is already starting to happen. With the US starting to agree to hand Iraq back to the Iraqis - without any ownership deal over their oil - and with the US starting to enter talks with Iran.

Wall St has unequivocally told Bush and Israel - stop threatening Iran - its driving up oil prices by 20% and its destroying the US (and world) economy. Your policies have been destroying America.

And Bush listens to Wall Street.

Israel is the 52nd state of America and is quite possibly even more powerful than the United States itself. Why do you think Congress continually approves billions upon billions of aid to Israel? Israel calls the shots and you're foolish to think that the economic contagion will stop because of this "rubbing elbows" move. Oil isn't going down because of Investors caring about the Economy..thats nonsense, investors care about only one thing. PROFITS. Some "big" players have SHORTS on USO/OIL and they want to make some heavy cash so they need to suppress the price of Oil down. Dont be fooled by the Wall Street con. The economy is already destroyed, its just that the Central Banks are keeping the banks alive with their constant infusion of cash but the gig is up. Even if they are trying to slow down the domino effect, it doesnt mean the dominoes still wont fall, it'll just be in slower motion.
