A 15-year-old gunman unleashed a blizzard of bullets inside a rural Kentucky high school Tuesday — killing two of his classmates and wounding 12 others, police said.

The teen shooter methodically squeezed off round after round in a crowded common area of Marshall County High School in Benton, sending students scrambling for their lives just before 8 a.m.

“He was determined. He knew what he was doing,” said student Alexandria Caporali, 16, who raced into a classroom when the gunfire rang out.

“It was one right after another — bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,” she added. “You could see his arm jerking as he was pulling the trigger.”

The two fatalities were both 15 years old — Bailey Holt who died at the scene and Preston Cope who was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved, officials said.

Fellow student Gabbi Bayers described the pair as “two of the greatest people I have ever met.”

“I have never heard one negative thing come from their mouths,” Bayers added in a Facebook post. “I’m glad we made the memories we did with each other. It hurts knowing we won't be able to share the laughs anymore.”

Of the 12 other students struck by bullets, five were in critical condition, authorities said.

Five other students suffered minor injuries in the mad dash for safety.

The unidentified shooter was taken into custody at the school without incident, officials said.

Caporali said she spotted him trying to escape after he ran out of bullets.

He “couldn’t do anything else,” Caporali said. “He took off running and tried to get away from the officers.”

Cops said the gunman wielded a single handgun as he carried out the nation's first fatal school shooting of 2018.

The spasm of violence spread panic through Benton, a town of some 4,300 people located about 250 miles southwest of Lexington.

“In a small town like this, you don’t think anything like this would ever happen here,” Marshall County School Board Chairman Randy Travis told the Louisville Courier-Journal.

“But it did. Everybody here is in shock.”

Officials said sheriff deputies arrested the gunman nine minutes after he opened fire, thanks to a series of early 911 calls.

“This situation was disrupted,” Lt. Michael Webb of the Kentucky State Police said. “There’s no way to know at this point how far this would have went.”

Authorities said the teen will be charged with two counts of murder and several counts of attempted murder. They declined to provide possible motives.

President Trump was briefed on the deadly shooting Tuesday afternoon, the White House said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families there and we offer our sincerest appreciation to the heroic Marshall County deputy who apprehended the shooter,” press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters.

Student Baleigh Culp said she was joking around with friends when they heard a loud bang that sounded like books hitting the floor.

“That's what I expected it to be, until I saw a body drop on the ground,” Culp said. “There was bullets flying everywhere. I ran straight out the door and headed to the highway as fast as I could.”

It was the second school shooting in two days.

In the Texas town of Italy, a 15-year-old girl was recovering after police said she was shot by a 16-year-old classmate in her high school cafeteria on Monday, sending dozens of students scrambling for safety.

I wonder how far that was from prospect kentucky where that lil pussy ex police chief, told one the recruits
to kill black men if he caught them smokin weed

made some rapist remarks about raping the mother and some other super faggy remarks...

It's about 3 hours away. (Kentucky is a long state it's like 5 hours to cross it from east to west) I grew up in Prospect which used to be a rural area just outside of Louisville, but it became the place middle class white people ran to when the city was desegregated. But there were always a community of Black folks there before that so it's weird because there's a good chunk of Black folk there who been there before the white folk made it a upper middle class community.

Ironically, Marshall County where the shooting happened is like 20 minutes away from Mayfield, Kentucky where my father spent most of his childhood. Marshall county is probably 99% white with 1% being a mix of indian, black and other. Definitely Trump and pro confederacy territory.

He lighting shit up before 8:00 am. See this is why I used to go to school late like everyday. I was a late room champion

On the real though, if I was one of the people who were only minorly wounded, I don't know if I'd be more upset that I got shot or that I was shot before I finished breakfast.

So there was another school shooting earlier this week actually Monday that went under the radar

Savage devils are a clear and present danger.

ELLIS COUNTY -- The Ellis County Sheriff's Office has a 16-year-old student in custody after a school shooting Monday morning that left a 15-year-old injured.

Just before 8 a.m., an active shooter was reported at Italy High School in Italy, Texas.

A 16-year-old male student was taken into custody without incident after shooting a 15-year-old female student in the cafeteria with a semi-automatic handgun, Sheriff Charles Edge said.

Staff members confronted the suspect, who then fled before being arrested outside the school.

The girl was taken via helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Her condition hasn't been released.

"This morning's tragedy hits the heart of this community," Superintendent Lee Joffre said. "Our staff acted as trained and addressed the situation the best way they could."

He added that counselors will be provided on campus to speak with students.

Other students told WFAA about events that apparently happened in months and years past involving the 16-year-old student.

"They shouldn't have let him come to the school anymore after some of the stuff he's done," said Alyssa Crawford who claims to be a former friend and former student at Italy High School.

Students told WFAA that the boy was apparently disciplined because of those events. The school district would not confirm any such incidents occurred.

"Unfortunately a school district is not allowed to release any disciplinary information about a student," said Superintendent Lee Joffre.

Earlier in the morning, an Italy ISD parent showed WFAA a text message alert Superintendent Joffre sent Monday morning. The message confirmed the shooting at Italy High School, and stated that one person was shot and taken to the hospital.

Officials at Stafford Elementary School confirmed to WFAA that it and the high school were both under lockdown during the investigation. High school students were taken to Stafford Elementary School before being reunited with their parents.

School will be in session on Tuesday as normal, the superintendent said.

According to the Texas Tribune, Italy High School has students in 6th through 12th grades. Last school year there were 281 students enrolled.

Parents are frustrated and emotional because they can't get to their kids who are in lockdown inside the school. Parents say the school is small and a good portion of the students witnessed the shooting. My heart breaks for these families and these children. pic.twitter.com/EOT02a4WGR

Italy, which calls itself "The Biggest Little Town in Texas," is located off Interstate 35E, near U.S. Highway 77 and State Highway 34, about 15 miles south of Waxahachie.

now thats some serious gentrification.

sounds like kentucky still got a heavy dose of that blatant ol fashioned racism.... new york has probably the same amount but its not as blatant..

its just fucked up how a police chief would tell a young recruit to literally shot, a young child, and rape his parents... that sick fuck shouldve been charged..

interesting.. post thanks... I heard kentucky has

some really pretty parts. you still live there?

and is the grass really blue in kentucky..

Kentucky is really diverse. There are parts in Eastern Kentucky which is lilly white and an economically depressed as any part of the country. Coal country more akin to West Virginia than anything else. Then Western Ky, which is a lot more mid western (think Illinois, Missouri). Then you got Louisville and Lexington the two biggest cities (will remind of you Ciny or Indy in its demographics) which are very liberal and probably voted overwhelmingly for Hilary. Then you got two huge Army bases in Ft Campbell and Ft Knows. So lot of Amry people around. It's just depends on where you are.

That little town Prospect is filled with affluent white liberals so the idea of seeming racist is actually worse than being racist, so they got rid of that piece of shit assist as soon as they could.

Btw, the whole Bluegrass thing is about the heartiness of the grass that the racing horse graze on in the northern parts of the state. The grass if allowed to grow fully has a blue flower hence Bluegrass
