The twin brothers who starred on TLC‘s reality TV hit My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding are dead after an apparent joint suicide.
Thirty-two-year-old siblings Bill and Joe Smith were reportedly founding hanging side by side in a tree in the English town of Sevenoaks this weekend, according to local law enforcement reports. The close-knit brothers and former reality TV stars were part of a unique family of traditional Irish travelers, and had lived in the area.
The news was first confirmed publicly on Facebook by Celebrity Big Brother winner Paddy Doherty, who called it a “terrible, terrible tragedy” and wrote in part (below):
“My heart is breaking,” wrote one mourner on Doherty’s page about the news, commenting on the tragedy on the social media site. “They were very nice fellas and loved there [sic] granny so much. prayers for all friends and family at this time and the hole [sic] traveler community on the loss of the twins.”
Just awful.
Bill and Joe were stars of the third season of the show, which first ran back in 2015 on TLC. They were working as gardeners at the time and were part of a traditional Irish traveler family, showing off their culture and lifestyle to the cameras. They were a hit with viewers as good looking, younger men with good comedic timing and humor — and they made for good TV.
Authorities will now continue to investigate the deaths, but at this point they apparently have no indication to suspect foul play. According to TMZ, they are reportedly “confident” in treating both men’s deaths as suicides.
Such a tragic, horrible ending. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill and Joe’s tight-knit family, close friends, and other loved ones.
