TV Streaming Discussion: HBO MAX UPDATE: WTF is Going on? Merger with PARAMOUNT?!

The regulatory path ahead for a Netflix and Warner Bros. deal could get dicey

• The combination would put together two of the biggest global streaming services, and put further power behind Netflix, which has repeatedly upended the media industry.

• Regulators are likely to take a close look at the deal. The Trump administration already views the deal with "heavy skepticism," CNBC reported Friday.

These idiots. Now trump and his cronies at paramount will surely buy it once they use all their power to kill the Netflix deal. Lmao what country.

Crazy... Ellison and Christopher Nolan were just lobbing Trump at the White House with the Saudi's

And now Ellison sent out all the dogs...

Major Industry Players, Wall Street Journal and Nolan is the president of The Directors Guild of America...

It's nothing they can do about this deal. The paramount CEO needs to let the deal go through. Netflix didn't buy the whole company. They bought the WB + HBO max. They didn't touch the cable companies. Paramount can still buy the cable companies for a cheaper price.

Trump says Netflix-Warner Bros. deal could be a 'problem' and he will be involved in approval

Netflix said Friday it would purchase Warner Bros. Discovery's film studio, HBO and the streaming service HBO Max. If the deal is approved, Netflix would also get access to decades of films and shows in the Warner Bros. Pictures archive.

The deal would not include cable networks owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, such as CNN and TNT.

Trump expressed some skepticism Sunday about the prospects of approval.

"Well, that’s got to go through a process, and we’ll see what happens," he told reporters as he walked the Kennedy Center Awards’ red carpet in Washington.

"They have a very big market share," Trump said of Netflix. "When they have Warner Bros., that share goes up a lot."

Netflix, which has more than 300 million subscribers, is the No. 1 streaming service. Warner’s HBO Max is ranked slightly lower…

These mergers are bad for everyone, but Black artists and producers are gonna feel these mergers the worst. The past few years have already been rough for folks in the industry. This is about to get brutal

Hes a bitch ass but there is no need for movies to go straight to streaming, if it can make money in theaters; thats an easy cash flow!! why would disney send any movie straight to streaming when it can make a billy in the theaters first? it makes no sense...

Bro...listen I been saying this for years. And actually asked people in the industry the same. And cannot get an answer about this movie v streaming release thing

If you know that and THEY know that and all the analytics TELL them that?

Why they still doing it?

Remember, just because people have money doesnt make them smart! Just because people are in charge, doesnt make them smart or aware; Netflix has enough money to make movies that release in theater; so they can do both; it makes no sense not to; Look at Zootopia 2; a billy already :eek2: Disney hit 5 billion this year, in the theaters, and still got Avatar coming!! They want more people to go, then give people incentives to go!! But it makes no sense at all to stop all together...

Just some pushback.....

In the 80's and 90's movies making money and being "blockbusters," was icing on the cake. Movies made their most money from home sales and sales to rental stores.....

Then in the late 90's early 00's the industry changed its focus to theater runs and ticketing numbers....and home sales became the icing on the cake..... well home "sales" have really slumped even if you include 4-5 yrs of Covid, when people were forced to be home.....

But what has surged in that time? Home movie rentals and streaming numbers.

Streaming/ home "rentals" are the new cash cows and as long as a movie can do decent numbers in the theaters, its still a win for the studio and industry

Why isn't Monday night raw or any other Netflix live broadcast in 4k? Especially sports like football?

Live 4K is bandwidth/resource HEAVY. Their servers are struggling to keep up. They tried live 4k and when millions of ppl tune in, their streams dip out. So 1080p is the safer option, for now.

If we were truly a technologically advanced country, things would be better

Fox and espn broadcast college games on Saturday in 4k...Olympics in 4k ...NBA games...those bastards just want to price gouge us and don't give us enough in return. I agree on your comments though!

Olympics is a global telecast and times vary greatly, but typically you don't have 50 million ppl viewing 1 event / stream. The US Open had multiple courts/ matches, with US or "other" commentary. Same with the Olympics.

College Football does have high viewership, but the highest viewed games typically are on broadcast TV (ABC, Fox) which was 18.4 and 18.3 million respectively earlier this year. (Broadcast TV is assited by satellites and traditional broadcast stations. Netflix is pure server streaming.)

Conversely, last year's Christmas Gameday on Netflix drew in 65 million viewers

Vastly different "leagues" of demand

Hell at least show WWE raw in 4k!

There will not be a day where this won't be funny. Regina Hall couldn't make a man forget his name in the clip right here
