Marvel to replace Iron Fist Netflix series with The Punisher

Earlier this month a rumour surfaced from Bleeding Cool suggesting that Marvel was struggling with development on Iron Fist, and could potentially pull the plug on Danny Rand’s Netflix series. While the initial report seemed suspect – especially as Bleeding Cool’s previous rumour about Marvel scrapping the Inhumans movie was swiftly dismissed – Peel the Orange is now claiming that Marvel is considering swapping Iron Fist for a series based around Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.

“Marvel can’t quite seem to figure out how to put Iron Fist into the equation and time is running out,” reports the site. “They’re very pleased with how Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Frank Castle for Season 2 of Daredevil and know that the fans have a great appreciation for the character. They also know that a Punisher series would be much cheaper and more marketable. They have a contract with Netflix and have to do something. It appears that for this phase of shows, time is running thin for Iron Fist.

Now, this could be little more than speculation, and should be firmly filed as a rumour for the time being but if it is true, how would you feel about a Punisher series as opposed to Iron Fist? Let us know in the comments below…

They should just add him to power man to make it "power man&iron fist " that's when they were the most popular

Not suprised. Seems like they were having difficulty and never even got to casting.

Hopefully we get it down the road.

I don't mind this shuffling of release dates and/or cancellations of productions PROVIDED the high quality of DD is maintained.

Also, Misty Stone will be in Luke Cage and she's IF girl so...

Here her fine ass is BTW

The Punisher Gets Netflix Nod As 'Daredevil' Spinoff

The Punisher, actor Jon Bernthal’s character from Netflix’s Daredevil, will get his own Netflix spinoff series from Marvel, Deadline has confirmed. The character makes his debut when Daredevil begins its second season March 18. No date has been set for The Punisher bow, which was first reported by TVLine.

At New York’s Comic Con in October, Bernthal (The Walkng Dead) called the Punisher “an iconic character who people care an enormous amount about.” He told reporters the character also known as Frank Castle particularly resonates with the military and people in law enforcement. “I know a lot of people really want us to get this right,” he said of the character’s arrival on Daredevil, “and all I can say is the people around me are really wonderful, and I’m just trying to keep up with them.”

good call...just throw iron fist in w/ the luke cage series...an iron fist solo show woulda been unnecessary

According to IGN's article, Iron Fist is still in production along with Punisher, as well as Jessica Jones Season 2 being confirmed.

UPDATE #2: Following the panel, Sarandos slightly elaborated on talk of The Punisher and Elektra spinoff shows. "All the characters that spin out in that universe could spin out," he said. "Any character that's in there is on the table, but nothing to talk about."

Beyond Daredevil: Season 2, Jessica Jones: Season 2 and Luke Cage, Netflix is in production on Iron Fist (casting is "in progress," said Sarandos) and The Defenders. Asked whether there could reach a day where so many properties means there will be more than two Marvel Netflix shows premiering in a given year, Sarados said that is not the intent.

"It's possible," he said. "Right now, these are produced at the scale of a major film, so they're long production times and long post times. In some cases we have character crossover, which makes it more difficult to manage production in a way to jam two or three in. It's not the goal, certainly, to put more than one or two out a year."

Iron fist just isn't that interesting for a show.

Fam - they could soup up all the ratings from Into The Badlands, all the fanboys and the comic book heads and the wannabes alike - they all trying to see what Daredevil seaon 2 is worth and everybody else will fall in line to watch the dots connect.

It could work.

Plus - Doctor Strange is RIGHT around the corner - this IS the time to push it.
