Tuscaloosa cops investigating a noise complaint dragged a man out of an off-campus University of Alabama apartment early Sunday, stunning and beating him as his friends screamed in terror.
An internal investigation into startling video of the violent arrest is expected to begin Monday, Tuscaloosa police officials said late Sunday.
The video shared with AL.com and the Crimson White student newspaper shows several angles of the 3:19 a.m. arrest at an apartment complex described by the university’s website as student housing.
An unidentified officer stood in the doorway of the apartment demanding to come inside before barking orders at one man to step outside.
He then snatched at the man’s shirt as a woman shouted “Don’t treat him like that” in protest. An officer later told that woman to “shut your f---ing mouth” as she cried hysterically during the arrests.
The man was then accused of grabbing an officer's arm during the doorway confrontation.
“You’re under arrest for harassment for grabbing my arm,” the officer bellowed. “I’m going to ask you one more time to get outside. Get outside now.”
The man’s friends are heard challenging the officer’s demands by asking if he was “being arrested or detained” and if so, the charges.
It’s not clear if the people inside the apartment were students at University of Alabama.
In another angle from outside the apartment, the officer barged through the doorway as someone inside the home apparently tried to shut the door prompting at least two more cops to storm in after him.
The officer then dragged the male resident outside, tackled him to the ground and stunned him with a taser. Another officer battered the man’s back with a baton.
A second man is shown being shoved to the ground during the arrest. A witness saw police arrest a third person, AL.com reported.
