President Trump is hopeful that players will stand during the national anthem when he takes the pitcher’s mound next month at Yankee Stadium.

The president revealed during a White House coronavirus briefing on Thursday that he spoke to Yankees President Randy Levine about throwing out the first pitch Aug. 15 when the Yankees take on the Red Sox.
TRUMP READY FOR LIVE SPORTS BUT SAYS HE WON’T TUNE IN IF PLAYERS KNEEL DURING NATIONAL ANTHEM: ‘GAME IS OVER FOR ME’
“Randy Levine’s a great friend of mine from the Yankees” he said. “He asked me to throw out the first pitch. And I think I’m doing that on August 15 at Yankee Stadium.”
Later Thursday, during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Trump again said he would be taking part in the longstanding tradition but noted that he hoped that players would stand during the national anthem.
“It’s great that baseball is back, and other sports are back. I hope everyone’s standing; I hope they’re not going to be kneeling when the flag is raised. I don’t like to see that,” he said. “That would hurt a lot of people in our country. They don’t want to see that with the NFL, or baseball, or basketball, or anything else.”

He continued: “There are plenty of places you can protest. You don’t have to protest on the raising of our flag.”

The president’s comments came shortly after every player and coach on the Washington Nationals and Yankees took a knee and held a black ribbon before the national anthem. They stood when the “Star-Spangled Banner” was played.

Trump said earlier in the week after several MLB players knelt during the national anthem before exhibition games that he would not be tuning in to live sports if players protested the flag.
“Looking forward to live sports, but any time I witness a player kneeling during the National Anthem, a sign of great disrespect for our Country and our Flag, the game is over for me!” he said in a tweet.

The reaction to Trump’s first pitch will be interesting. A former high school baseball player, Trump should have an easier time than Dr. Anthony Fauci, who botched the first pitch ahead of Thursday’s game.

A big Nationals fan, Fauci was asked to take part in the ceremonial pitch, which landed outside the strike zone.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In an event that he described as “historic,” Donald J. Trump announced that he will throw out the First Amendment at Yankee Stadium next month.

“It’s going to be an amazing and fantastic thing I’ll be doing,” Trump said. “I’ve asked a lot of history experts, and they all say that no President has thrown out an amendment before.”

“Obama was President for eight years and never threw out an amendment,” he said. “What a loser.”

Trump said that he had considered throwing out the First Amendment “many, many times before” but had ultimately decided to preserve freedom of the press for his friends at Fox News.

“But, thanks to that beauty Chris Wallace, now I know that Fox is just as nasty and fake as the rest,” he said. “The only real journalist left is that nice lady at OAN.”

When asked how he is preparing for his Yankee Stadium appearance, Trump said that he is consulting with other world leaders who are experienced in throwing out laws.

“I had a terrific conversation with Vladimir Putin,” Trump said. “They don’t have a First Amendment in Russia, but he said that, if they did, he would definitely throw it out. So that made me feel good.”

Trump grew misty-eyed as he contemplated his upcoming visit to Yankee Stadium.

“I can’t believe I’ll be throwing out the First Amendment,” he said. “Every little boy dreams of this.”

I don't believe he REALLY gonna go through with it.

His EGO aint gonna let him.

I could see him actually FALLING trying to do it.

He will do it because there will be nobody in the audience to boo him..

If those stands were full, no way in hell would he take his ass out on the field.

Him and his cronies and sheep are clowning Fucci...

man oh man

if he does anything CLOSE to that?

he might actually lose his base...

I swear I predict he gonna fall when he tries to hard to actually throw a strike.

I don't know fam

we gonna make all these rules and specifics now?

this aint that Jerry Jones bullsh*t

I feel like that was a LEGIT sign of respect from the moment of silence to the black ribbon.

There is only one rule kneel during the anthem. Just one.

Next thing u know they'll be like we had a prayer circle at practice so that was good enough.

At the end of the day no legislation or bill has been written up to address the issue. Why should we water it down? Let's get some form of advancement before we start kumbiya'ing with the opps.

i hear you I agree

all I'm saying is at least for me

ESPECIALLY the way baseball has been embarrassingly ABSENT?

As long as it continues I don't know if I want to TELL a player or team HOW they supposed to protest

Not to argue, just having a conversation...

They are trying to take the sting off then tuck it under the rug. No one ever got free by doin what their masters told them. If they wanna help then do something about the problem and not soften it.

you 100%

all I'm saying is I feel like ESPECIALLY in baseball where we are damn near nonexistent?

I don't want to derail the whole thing with

well you didn't do the RIGHT form of protest

again I do NOT like "approved" protest AT ALL

but for the people to actually PROTEST and seemingly with GOOD intentions

I don't want to then critique everything about it because I personally wouldn't have done it that way.

Since when does the flag get "raised" during the anthem or any other time according to the transcription?

That mf'r believes and then says the most inaccurate shit.

tRump lied? I can't believe it.

I'm not sure about that weasel Randy Levine. Seems like he'd try to slip tRump in there when there are no fans because fans would have booed him off the mound. 95% of New Yorkers despise tRump. After Hal Steinbrenner died seems like Levine is trying to flex.

Then again, maybe Tish James would have had state troopers waiting with warrants for his ass.

No matter, it wouldn't have ended well.

Yankees Reportedly ‘Surprised’ to Hear Trump Throwing Out First Pitch Next Month

According to a new report from the New York Times, the New York Yankees are likely taking President Trump’s recent announcement that he will not be able to throw out the first pitch at their opening game on August 15 in stride, as allegedly the club did not ask him to do it. The president told reporters about the opportunity on July 23, the same day Dr. Anthony Fauci threw out the first pitch for the Washington Nationals.
“Randy Levine is a great friend of mine from the Yankees,” Trump said on Thursday. “He asked me to throw out the first pitch, and I think I’m doing that on August 15 at Yankee Stadium.” According to the Times, however, a source at the White House confirmed to them that neither team officials or Trump’s staff had heard about an offer. Instead, a call was reportedly placed to Levine, president of the Yankee franchise, to take him up on a past offer he had made to have Trump throw out an opening pitch at some point. No actual plan was made Trump to attend this year’s opener. In the meantime, White House staff reportedly informed the president that he is otherwise engaged on August 15, and Trump publicly demurred on Sunday.
