True Talk: Would you vote for Obama or Colin Powell???

Look, Obama is increasing in popularity, even though I think Hillary will beat him. Personally, I think Obama looks good in '12 or '16.

Now Colin Powell is another thing. Even though Hillary is still the most popular among likely Democrats, do you know that Colin Powell is still leading the polls among likely voters? In short, once again, if Colin Powell decides to run in '08, he has the biggest chance of actually winning the whole thing.

His numbers are strong. His persona, even though damaged by his faulty speech at the UN (in which has shown regret), is still intact and gaining strength. And he still has huge international appeal. Oh, and he's a General- with experience in the trenches.

The big problem, though, is that he says that he will not run. And I think it's due to possible assassination threats.

What do you all think?

I think Colin has a greater chance of electablility overall. Of course we will hear from our people that he isn't black enough, worked for the cracker Bush ect. but taking the race issue out of it he seems to be even more 'acceptable' (threatening) than Obama. At this time white America will not elect a black person from the Democratic party to be president.

I wish he would run. He would sooner get my vote than Obama.

I say show me what polls you're talking about. Powell is old news, he turned down his opportunity. Why even bring him up. People should be focused on getting Obama into office.

Interesting...but Powell's ship sailed in '00. He has no interest.
We might as well be talking about Obama v. Jesse Jackson.

Obama cant win. America isnt ready for a black president just yet. He should run as VP with Hillary or hold off until 2012 or 2016. White america is more comfortable with a white woman than a black man. Turn the pot up slow...

powell would be an excellent president. i truly belive that. he won't run (i don't think) but he'd be great. i don't care about party politics. republican or democrat - the bottomline is we need a strong but understand and diplomatic leader in the white house.

Never understood the fascination with Colin Powell. I've never really heard him discuss his political views in any real depth. I commend him for fleeing the sinking Bush ship when he did.

Obama, though new, has thorougly impressed me with his "talk". If he walks the way he talks, I think the country would be in much better shape under him.

I swear I'm tired of black people talking about what America is ready for. America wasn't ready for slavery to end, segregation, or for you to even vote. Luckily, a few of our ancestors didn't quite give a fuck about all that and kept pushin anyway.

The Colin Powell that worked in the White House in the past would NOT have gotten a fucking vote from me

However, since he's been out of office he's been VERY critical of Bush's policies and has started being "real" with his opinions rather than spewing off the company lines like he had to do in the past.

With that being said, I think I would vote for the Colin Powell of today over Obama. I still think Obama needs some more experience and political seasoning before he can become an effective president.

The fascination with Colin Powell is simply this: He is probably the only guy walking the streets that can resolve the conflicts in the Middle East. Gen. Powell is a strategist. He has actually been on the ground, commanding troops and fighting in jungles. He will also not be so quick to get into battles because he actually was in battles.

Also, Colin Powell's name still means something internationally. He has the ability to go alone in a room with Kim Jong Il or any of those leaders in any of those countries that hate America and come up with agreements that will actually be positive. Remember, the last real victory that America had against the war on terror (whatever that means) was when Powell was Secretary of State.

And lastly, he has what is great about Barack Obama: He can bring this country together. Listen, Hillary Clinton is not going to bring this country together. Hillary Clinton is not Bill Clinton. Barack Obama is more like Bill Clinton than Hillary in the way that he is hands-on with a personality that makes you believe what he says. But there are many Democrats who HATE Hillary Clinton, especially after the last election when she sabotaged John Kerry's run against Bush. To many, she is a snake that tried to leak intel about Obama's childhood. And to Republicans, she's Satan... the evil spirit behind everything that is wrong in America.

The problem, though, is that Obama has no real track record. Hillary has a small, but real record. Hillary's biggest contribution to politics is still her last name, so Obama can really answer the question concerning his lack of record in a debate. But people still think that if Hillary wins the election, Bill Clinton will be President-by-Proxy. But I don't know if that's the case.

But Powell has the same appeal as Obama with a long history of leadership. Plus, his political history started in the Reagan administration. He was a thought leader during the eventual victory of the Cold War.

My only concern with Powell is his plans domestically. A good leader, however, will make sure that he surrounds himself with the best thought leaders possible. And Colin Powell is a good leader.

I'm still looking at Obama.

Colin could still come out of retirement and talk that serious national security stuff and people would listen to him big time. He is still a 4 star general, was joint chiefs chairman, first brotha to do it, and got that serious war cred. He's for killing unborn babies so that makes him cool with the dead baby voters and might be for gay marriage so the far left , moveon.org types would support him.

I don't see how whatever Hillary has done that makes her candidacy a for-gone conclusion. People talk like it's all over but the counting. It's two damn years away and this early jump keeps political junkies talking but nobody really cares about all this jockeying but us political junkies. No one else is taking any of these polls and bullshit stories seriously. When it gets down to the discussion of National Security, boarder security, trade deficits, and radical ass islamic murderers and shit, no way will America trust a woman driving this nation. Ad on the dumb shit she's said recently about if she wins SHE will end global warming. What a dumb bitch. Anyway, it ain't happening that she will win. Not with my vote is isn't. Obama 08!

Has Powell even associated himself with the Repugnacan Party lately? Every since they made fool of him with the weapons of mass destruction comments, he has not be to cozy the them. In fact many of the Repugnacan talk show jokers were bad mouthing him. Why would he want to be part of that?

I heard a few of the talking heads on the tube make that noise but I think most people still remember Colin being first selected by Reagan and then Bush Sr. for his leadership over the Gulf war. What Haniety might say about Colin would get drowned out quickly. Colin' a military man and like I said it's still early in the game. He could jump in at some point in the future and make this shit really interesting. If for no other reason than to help keep bitch Clinton in Chappaqua suffering through menopause.

He's always been a Republican, I believe. Even when he was Clinton's head of the Joint Chiefs he was a Republican. Moderate, but Republican.

obama is getting that hollywood dem money if he gets a majority of that hillary doesnt stand a chance. i still think its better for them to run together on the same ticket.

The only reason he is a republican is because of his loyalty to Reagan for appointing him to the joint chiefs. His wife is a democrat, for years he really claimed no strong political affiliation. He is pro choice, pro affirmative action. How far would that go in a republican presidential primary? The right wing tacit racists would have a field day. Give it up Black republicans; you have no current answer to Obama. This is what the Black republicans get for supporting a racist party, no voice!

You know this how? Did he tell you this? Are you telling me that you believe Colin is a republican simply because of a job he would not have had a shot at otherwise? Because to say that is also to say that Colin Powel simply was not qualified to command American's armed forces save for a political affiliation. Which if you can remember, which I know you can't so let me remind you, got almost 70 percent of the white electorate and 30 percent of the Black electorate pushing for him to run for President in spite of his party affiliation.
You got to be the most self-hating negro I've ever met to sell us out based on a stupid registration card. :smh: You see it's the man people wanted.

Case in Point, Joe Lieberman lost the support of the democrat party establishment and they abandoned him. Threatened to take his assignments away if he ran against the party. He said FUCK EM like I did years ago. He then ran as an Independent and he won anyway. Proving yet again that party shit is pointless when you get down to it.

I don't know the same could be said of John McCain and he's 71 and still going for it. Now are you saying this because Colin is out of favor with the Rep Party?

I'd vote 1.Colin 2.Barak Though Barak is an excellent orator and writer his inexperience is an issue. I'd have to review his state senate record and extrapolate it to figure out how he'd vote on the major issues. :(

What does Lieberman have to do with Powell?

"In his years in public service, General Powell never disclosed his political sympathies; he was registered to vote as an independent. Although he was known to have supported the 1964 campaign of President Lyndon Johnson, a Democrat, he had served in both Republican and Democratic administrations"

First of all, I am biased. I'm a Colin Powell fan.

That being said, his switch in party affiliation was not due to paying back Reagan. Powell served in both Republican and Democratic administrations. He used to vote a straight Democratic ticket because to vote Republican was tantamount to racial treason. In short, he voted Democratic because he was black and conventional wisdom was to vote like every other black person.

Also, Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights bill into law. And Lyndon Johnson was hard against Communist aggression in Vietnam. That's why he liked Lyndon Johnson.

But Colin Powell was unregistered until he registered as a Republican in 1995. Perhaps he went Republican because that's where his power base lies. Perhaps he just like the Party. I have no idea, but his Democratic affiliations early in life was due to his family and the conventional wisdom of that time. You can read more about it in his biography.

I live round cleveland, we had a white lady mayor, the police was shooting us blackmen like crazy, must of dropped 5 or 6 dead ina few months.

We were outraged, she didnt do anything about it.

It was election year, this "brother" named frank jackson was running. He vowed to do justice.

He won the election. Know what the "brother" did? Nothing, not a dam thing, he bent over and took it in the ass after talking mad shit.

Turned out b4 one of the shootings the cops were joking bout killing the dude, what was franks response? We didnt know. But he was lying cause the po po said they turned over everything.....and they did.

The moral of the story is just cause somebody is black doesnt mean they will help. They will act like they will use your vote and maybe be worse then a white muthafucka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tend to vote how it will hit me in my pocket, cause I know for sure black politicians aint gonna do shit about OUR problems.

Sad how the democrats and our black "brothers" play us for our vote using race...................................................................................

when these muthafuckas aint gonna do shit bout one racial issue so why elect them????

Serious, we need to elect the canidate that lets us keep more of our money and wont bog us down in war.

I had lunch with Gen. Powell back during the first gulf war.

I would vote for him in a heartbeat. That and join the USSS to keep him alive.

More then likely he will not run. He has said that over and over.

powell? hellz naw. he ran with the republicans. plus, read larry king's book years back and he talked about meeting and talking to powell at a white house dinner. how he was chopping it with with king and trying to distance himself from black people, our problems, yada, yada. sheit was sad :smh:

To be honest, I'd much rather vote for this guy:

You do understand the concept of an election don't you? All that matters is what the people who vote think. You think a black man going pro-black on them isnt on a lot of white minds.

Nah, fuck him too!

We had nothing but eight years of the same old shit for black people. Adding to the insult, he turned his back on Rwanda and watched over a million die. Now he says he regrets it. Fuck him and his wife!. You better open your eyes people! Not a single past president has done anything for black people on their own accord.

So I'll take virtually anyone black (except some preacher) just to shake things up.

I have no party loyalty. Obama or Powell in 2008 sounds good to me. :smh:
